The longest-running drama anthology in the Philippines, Maalaala Mo Kaya, is set to make a huge comeback this April with a special limited series.

Its host and narrator, Charo Santos, expressed her willingness to take on a different role — not as the usual storyteller, but as an actress portraying a real-life story. During the media roundtable for the upcoming MMK season, Charo shared that the story would have to deeply resonate with her heart above all else.

“Depende sa dumating ‘yan eh. Depende ‘yan sa kwento. If it resonates with my heart, kung palagay ko kaya kong bigyan ng justice, ‘di ba?” she said.

She added that it would undoubtedly be a story reflecting the life and experiences of an older woman: “Siyempre, kwento ‘ ng lola, kwento ng senior citizen.”

Maalaala Mo Kaya became known for its iconic episode titles inspired by everyday objects, and Charo shared what hers might be in this new generation.

“Traditional ‘yung mga bagay ko eh. Traditional, like roses. Hindi siya Gen Z. Kasi hindi naman ako lumaking naka-cellphone. Nandun ako sa landline lumaki. Meron ka pang ka-party line. ‘Di ba? ‘Yung magbibigay ka pa ng oras ‘Sandali lang po. Malapit na, ganyan.’ Hindi ako masyadong attached sa bagay-bagay,” she explained.

Charo mentioned a possible title that she felt might suit her story: “Sabi ko kanina: Forever Young, Forever Alive.”

Meanwhile, the ABS-CBN icon also expressed her gratitude to actor Romnick Sarmenta, who will once again appear in the pilot episode of the new season. She reminisced about the show's very first episode in 1991, recalling how it unexpectedly brought the network's former executives to tears.

“Yung first episode niya, Rubber Shoes (ang title). Alam mo, ‘yung pilot episode kasi pinapa-approve ‘yan sa mga bosses eh. Eh ang mga bosses, mga lalaki ‘di ba? Hindi naman sila mga dramatic na tao; mahirap paiyakin. Noong nasa preview room sila, lumuhuha sila. Kaya talaga thank you for starting the series. And now, the limited series is again with you,” she told Romnick.

Romnick originally starred alongside the late veteran actor Robert Arevalo as father and son in the first episode of the series’ original run. Now, in full circle, Romnick is set to portray the father of Elijah Canlas, who will play Sofronio Vasquez, the winner of The Voice U.S. Season 26.

The drama anthology  is set for a highly-anticipated comeback with an all-new limited series, premiering this April 24 (Thursday) on iWantTFC.

The series will be available for early streaming — 48 hours ahead —exclusively on iWantTFC, featuring 13 powerful episodes over 13 weeks. Each installment will include a special director’s cut, showcasing bolder narratives and raw, emotionally charged scenes.
