Award-winning actress Hilda Koronel shared what made her say yes to the lead role in the upcoming film Sisa, marking her return to the big screen.

In an interview on TicTALK with Aster Amoyo, the veteran actress said it was the story that mainly convinced her to accept the role of Sisa. "It's the story primarily. Sa kanya talaga 'yung istorya, Sisa is just me," she remarked.

The actress added that the way the project was pitched to her, as well as the people behind the production, also played a big part in her decision.

"'Yung presentation nila, it was excellent. And of course it was Idea First, the company was really good, and direktor (Jun Lana) ko, definitely mahusay," she said.

Before committing to the role, Hilda made sure to read the script first. "So narinig ko 'yung presentation ng story and all I could say give me a good script... Binasa ko muna, we've talked about it, may mga revisions kami ng kaunti but naayos namin maagi ni direk," she stated.

When asked what fans can expect from the film, Hilda relayed: "Magandang pelikula, magandang istorya, magandang cast, magandang cinematography, everything. It's a fascinating movie."

Reflecting on her return to acting after 13 years, she shared her excitement about being back in her element. "It's very nice. I feel I'm back in my own element... I feel like I'm home," she remarked

Hilda shared that they are aiming for an international release first for the film. The movie has no official release date yet,

Speaking to Deadline in January, director Jun Robles Lana shared the film’s powerful message. "This story elevates the voices and experiences of marginalized women, challenging traditional gender roles and highlighting their crucial role in resistance movements."

He went on: "Despite the brutality and oppression they face, the characters in the story demonstrate the resilience and unwavering spirit of the Filipino people in their struggle for freedom and self-determination."

Jun added that the film has made extensive efforts to immerse viewers in the historical setting, recreating "the sights, sounds, and even the smells of a reconcentrado (removal of rural inhabitants) in the early 1900s."

He highlighted: "Imagine stepping onto a film set that vibrates with the energy of a military camp from that era – the dust, the sweat, the grime, the hardship – all palpable and real."
