Korean star Song Joong-Ki has long captivated audiences with his talent, charisma, and versatility in portraying charming protagonists to complex antiheroes.

 As he prepares to meet his Filipino fans for the first time at IAM Song Joong-ki: Live in Manila fan meeting on May 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena, take a look at six of his most iconic roles that cemented his status as a beloved "K-drama oppa."

 

Captain Yoo Si Jin – Descendants of the Sun (2016)

Song Joong-Ki skyrocketed to global fame with his portrayal of Captain Yoo Si Jin, a charismatic and fearless special forces officer who meets “again” the beautiful and competent doctor Kang Mo-yeon, played by actress Song Hye Kyo,  on a mission in Uruk. His undeniable chemistry with the cast and the engaging plot made him a household name worldwide, with “Song Joong Ki syndrome” spreading across countries at the time.

Descendants of the Sun was Song Joong Ki’s comeback project after completing his military enlistment.

Eun Seom & Sa Ya – Arthdal Chronicles (2018)

Taking on a dual role in the fantasy epic Arthdal Chronicles, Song Joong Ki played twin brothers Eun Seom and Sa Ya, navigating a world of political intrigue and mythology. His characters in the series required him to portray two vastly different personalities as the story centers the value of tribe, alliance, nation and religion during the ancient time.

Arthdal Chronicles reunited Song Joong Ki with actress Kim Ji Won, whom he previously worked with in Descendants of the Sun.

 

Yoon Hyun Woo & Jin Do Jun – Reborn Rich (2022)

In Reborn Rich, Song Joong Ki once again took on a dual character: Yoon Hyun Woo, a betrayed loyal employee, and Jin Do Jun, the reincarnated version of himself who seeks revenge against a powerful conglomerate family. Kang Ma Ru – The Innocent Man (2012)

Before his global fame, Song Joong Ki proved his dramatic prowess as Kang Ma Ru, a man betrayed by love, in The Innocent Man. His transformation from a kind-hearted medical student to a vengeful antihero brought viewers invested in his tragic journey, earning him critical acclaim. The series also earned Joong Ki the title “savior of melodrama.”

Song Joong Ki also showcased his musical talent by singing one of the drama's official soundtracks "Really."

 

Gu Yong Ha (Yeo Rim) – Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010)

In this historical drama, Song Joong Ki charmed viewers as the mischievous and intelligent Gu Yong Ha, also known as Yeo Rim. Although he was a supporting character in the series, Joong Ki’s playful demeanor and stylish traditional outfit showed his charm in the historical drama.
