MANILA -- Cherry Pie Picache is no stranger to demanding roles, but her upcoming  film “Fatherland” presented a new kind of challenge for the veteran actress — learning a new language.

In the film directed by Joel Lamangan, Picache’s character required her to deliver lines in Chinese.

“Nahirapan ako, kasi Filipino-Chinese. I had to speak Chinese. Kailangan believability,” she shared during the media conference held in Manila City, Tuesday.

“Pinaaral niya old Chinese. On-the-spot lessons. Ang hirap!” she recalled. “May nagko-correct naman. Iyon ang challenge ko,” she reasoned.

Beyond the language, the actress had to work under Lamangan’s fast-paced direction.

“Si Direk Joel, gusto mabilis magtrabaho! Napi-pressure ka pero gusto mo siyempre bantayan na kailangan tama. Ang hirap,” she said.

Despite the struggles, Picache embraced the experience, seeing it as another opportunity to grow.

“As long as the role is good and nakaka-challenge, game ako,” she enthused.

“Fatherland,” produced by Eng. Benjamin Austria’s Bentria, also stars Inigo Pascual, Angel Aquino Mercedes Cabral, Max Eigenmann, Richard Yap, Ara Davao, Jeric Gonzales, among others.

The upcoming movie will be shown in cinemas beginning April 19.
