After 30 years, the beloved golf comedy Happy Gilmore is making a triumphant return, with Netflix officially announcing a sequel to the 1996 hit film starring Hollywood icon Adam Sandler.

 The highly-anticipated sequel will offer a glimpse into Happy’s life decades after his legendary golfing adventures. Fans can expect to see familiar faces from the original film, including Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Ben Stiller (Night at the Museum), and Christopher McDonald (Grease 2), alongside fresh additions to the cast.

Joining the ensemble are singer-actor Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, as well as Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler. Veteran actor Blake Clark (Boy Meets World) will also be featured.

In an exciting twist, professional golfers will appear in Happy Gilmore 2, further bridging the gap between comedy and sports. The lineup includes golf legends such as John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the film will portray Happy as a revered figure in the sport, earning respect from the world’s top golfers. 

The sequel has been the subject of speculation since September last year, when Sandler teased fans with an Instagram post featuring his iconic Bruins jersey with a name tag reading “Happy Gilmore.” Months later, the teaser trailer confirmed it was indeed a sneak peek of the sequel.

“It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun,” he wrote.

Supporters of the original film have expressed both excitement and cautious optimism in the comment section.

“I’m SO excited but SO nervous. Loved the first one so much. It was a huge part of my childhood. I hope this movie is done right and not just a money grab. Lord I pray you lead the writers, directors, producers, actors, & most of all, Adam, in the right direction while filming this movie & let this movie be done right. In your name I pray, amen,” American YouTuber Kian Lawley commented.

Another fan humorously referenced a famous line from the original movie, posting, “Yeah, Right, And Grizzly Adams Had A Beard!😜 On a serious note @adamsandler I’ve been waiting all my life for this!!😎🤘👊.”

Adam also posted the trailer on his personal social media account with caption: “Hope you all have fun and thanks for all the great times.”

Characters from Happy Gilmore have made cameo appearances in several of Sandler’s other projects, including Jack and Jill, Little Nicky, and Hubie Halloween. Now, the sequel brings the franchise back to the forefront with an all-star creative team.

Adam reunites with original Happy Gilmore co-writer Tim Herlihy, while Dennis Dugan, director of the first film, returns as an executive producer. Producers Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds are also on board. Additionally, Murder Mystery director Kyle Newacheck will helm the sequel.

Happy Gilmore 2 is set to premiere on Netflix this July 25.
