Filming their upcoming movie Ex Ex Lovers in Malta proved to be an emotional experience for Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal as the iconic love team reflected on their journey together.

In their recent interview on the TFC show BRGY with special guest host MJ Felipe, Jolina shared that their emotions seemed to be more in sync now.

“Yung pag nagkakasabay tayo ng emotion. Hindi naman ganon tayo dati. Dati lagi sinasabi ganito yung eksena. Pero ito, meron kami, nagkaroon kami ng may mga eksena na hinayaan lang kami. Tapos nagulat ako na may na-feel ako nun. Tapos yung reaction ni Marvin, nakita ko lalo na dagdagan yung emotion ko. Tapos sumabay din yung feelings. Dati hindi ganon eh,” the actress shared.

Marvin added that their maturity is also a factor why they are working better now as a love team.

“Siguro nga dahil mas tumanda kami. Parang iba yung stage ng buhay namin ngayon. But at the same time, iba din yung klase ng pelikula, andun yung rom-com na tinatawag natin na gusto namin ibalik yung katulad ng '90s. But we are actually in a stage right now ng buhay namin na ang dami namin pasasalamat para sa isa't isa,” he mentioned.

The actor admitted that, at one point, they cried in a scene where they hadn't originally intended to.

“Nung may ginawa kaming eksena sa Malta, hindi naman kami talaga iiyak. Pero nung sinabi namin yung mga lines na yun, parang sinasabi namin kay Marvin at kay Jolina yung mga lines na yun. Kaya nagulat na lang kami sa isa't isa. Nag-iiyakan na kami,” Marvin said.

The iconic '90s love team shared that, aside from the beauty of Malta, what made the experience even more memorable was the fun and heartwarming opportunity to meet Filipinos abroad during their shoot.

Marvin said, “Ang saya-saya ng experience namin. Of course, ‘yung kabuuan ng shoot namin, ang saya kasi ang ganda ng lugar. Ang nagpasaya pa doon ay ‘yung mga Filipinos na na-meet namin sa Malta na nakisaya pa sa amin ng 'Chuva Choo Choo.'"

The actor was referring to Jolina's iconic bubblegum pop song which is a hit from the '90s.

Marvin went on to share how it was another unplanned moment, with their supporters happily joining in to sing and dance with Jolina.

“Meron kaming meet and greet dun sa isang cafe ‘tas lumabas kami kasi gusto pa nga namin silang makasama sa labas. Tapos impromptu lang naisip namin na Junina parang, so kantahin yung ‘Chuva Choo Choo’ with them. Tapos walang speakers hindi naririnig. O, kanta na lang tayo. Ganyan, na-cellphone na lang. Tapos game na game silang sumasaya with us ng 'Chuva Choo Choo,'” the actor recalled.

Meanwhile, Jolina shared how inspiring it was to meet fellow Filipinos abroad, which filled her with pride.

“Ako yung makita ko, isang Pilipino or pamilya ng Pilipino na may magandang business sa ibang bansa, na kilala sila, na maganda yung produkto nila.  Napa-proud ako na nakita ko sila at na-happy ako na na-meet ko sila doon kasi nakaka-inspire,” she shared.

The actress, dubbed the queen of Filipino pop culture, also expressed how humbled she feels that, after so many years, they are still able to resonate with their supporters and make an impact on them.

“Parang ina-idolize pa kami ni Marvin. So parang yung feeling nung love and warmth na dahil nagtrabaho ka nang maigi nung bata ka at pinasaya mo yung mga tao, kahit pala tumagal na, ‘pag talagang totoo yung naitanim mo sa kanila, mamahalin ka pa rin nila kahit na ano pang naging estado ng buhay mo or makita ka ulit ngayon,” Jolina said.

Marvin added that it feels nice to know that, through them, people can feel a connection, as if they are also seeing their actual family back in the Philippines.

He shared: “Ang saya na nakapagbigay kami ng saya sa kanila. Dahil alam din naman natin, maraming sa kanila na-miss na ang Pilipinas. At pag nakikita nila kami, parang nakasama na rin nila yung mga mahal nila.”

The actor remarked that he hopes the energy they brought allowed Filipinos in Malta to feel a sense of connection, even if just for a brief moment.

“Kasi parang dala namin, siyempre dala namin, dahil hindi naman kami nakatira, dala namin yung energy sa Pilipinas na gustong gusto at masaya kami nakikita din sila, na parang kahit pa paano din sa brief moment na yun, naging maligaya kami kasama sila,” he explained.

Jolina added that she hopes their kilig film will be as warmly received in the Philippines as it was when they were filming it abroad, hoping it will connect with their fans back home.

“I feel like parang gauge din natin na ganun yung welcome sa atin. Ibig sabihin, kung patok yun sa Pilipino don, edi ipag inuwi natin sa Pilipinas yung ginawa namin yung shoot dun, e di kiligin din sila,” she expressed.

The reunion film of the iconic Marvin-Jolina tandem, Ex Ex Lovers, is set to hit Philippine cinemas on February 12.
