Ju Ji-hoon leads the cast of Netflix's first orignial medical series 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.' Photo courtesy of Netflix"The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call," Netflix's first original medical series starring actor Ju Ji-hoon, is set to premiere on January 24, the streaming giant said Tuesday.

Netflix also dropped a teaser for the series, which blends medical drama with action and humor.

The series centers on Ji-hoon's character Baek Kang-hyuk, a genius surgeon seasoned by years in war zones.

"Armed with a wry sense of humor and a mission to revolutionize trauma care in Korea, Baek is determined to establish a top-tier trauma center dedicated to saving lives," Netflix said.

"Breaking away from traditional hospital dramas, the series is all about the rush of the rescue and the camaraderie of a team that knows how to get things done," it added.

Photo courtesy of NetflixJi-hoon, 42, rose to fame for his portrayal of a crown prince in the 2006 romance series "Princess Hours," set in an alternate, modern-day Korea. His more recent works include the zombie horror "Kingdom," and mystery series "Jirisan" and "Lightshop Keeper."

Apart from Ji-hoon, "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" also stars Choo Young-woo (from "Once Upon a Small Town" and "The Tale of Lady Ok") and Ha Young ("Doona!").
