MANILA -- Kapamilya actor McCoy de Leon admitted that he never thought that his character in the hit ABS-CBN series "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" would stay this long.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, January 28, after the grand Kapamilya welcome for "Batang Quiapo" lead star Coco Martin and his team, de Leon said he is just grateful for the support.

"Hindi ko ini-expect. Sa totoo lang talagang maiksi lang 'yung role ko pero umabot ako ng two years. Kaya, maraming-maraming salamat po sa suporta," de Leon said.

In "Batang Quiapo," de Leon plays David, the half-brother and one of the enemies of lead character Tanggol (Martin).

With how manipulative, gaslighting, arrogant, treacherous, and completely wicked he is, there’s definitely no surprise that David Dimaguiba is one of the most hated characters not just in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” but also in the entire primetime television at present.

And that is evident in the gigil na gigil na comments posted by netizens on social media, some of which were read by actor McCoy de Leon in this video:

He looked very amused as he read the mean tweets directed at his infamous character, to which he replied by sharing little fun facts about David and the show, as well as thanking everyone behind the success of his remarkable stint.

For the first tweet, “Hayun, magtatagpo na si Tanggol at ang pekeng Tanggol na si David,” McCoy confessed that he actually misses Coco already, whom he fondly calls “kuya”, since they haven’t shared a scene yet for a long time now, not to mention that they’ve also been filming in separate locations that are far away from each other. And if there’s one thing that he has been yearning to tell him, it would be, “I miss you.”

In the second tweet, “David trying to seduce the attorney to get the Caballero’s wealth,” his reply was bleeped out as it apparently contained spoilers on the upcoming developments in David’s story arc with the seductive yet smart Atty. Vera Saldivar, played by Maika Rivera. But knowing David, he would do everything for the money, even though it means having to do bad things.

McCoy further elaborated it by teasing that he and Maika are going to give their narrative a different treatment as he read the tweet, “Atty. Vera another one na makukuha ni David tapos totodasin para sa yaman.”

When it comes to the tweet, “Jusko! Lumandi na naman si David,” he clarified that it’s only his character who is the womanizer and not him since he actually doesn’t know how to flirt.

The collective disgust of the viewing public seemed to be summed up in this next tweet: “Deserve ni David ang hardcore death, as in. Level na hindi kaapprove-approve sa MTRCB. At sana magpakita sina Bubbles, Katherine, and Camille. Mala-Final Destination. Grabe siya! Demonyo na!”

McCoy admitted that, like the viewers, he also finds his character utterly evil. Thus, he has nothing but appreciation for their directors, who have been doing an amazing job in further unfolding his wickedness to unimaginable lengths. Although it’s seemed to be already impossible that he is going to change, the promising actor pleaded to the viewers to still give David a chance to be good.

And lastly, as he read the tweet, “Kay David ako nanggigigil e. Ang demonyo ng ngiti. Hindi naman siya totoong Tanggol,” he displayed the sincere facet of himself as he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the avid spectators.

“Sorry ah, pero salamat sa inyo kasi dito ako nai-inspire lalo kapag nakikita kong naaapektuhan kayo. Bonus na lang kung talagang masira ang mood n’yo,” he stated, and went on to thank everyone behind the notorious character of David, which includes Coco and their brilliant writers and directors.

How about you, Kapamilya? Are you gigil over David, too? Well, it seems that McCoy de Leon will not stop anytime soon in making our blood pressure shoot up in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” so you better brace yourself!
