With the Metro Manila Film Festival officially extended until January 14, there’s still plenty of time to catch (or rewatch) this year’s cinematic gems, including “And The Breadwinner Is...” directed by Jun Lana and starring Vice Ganda!

In the movie, Vice steps into the shoes of Bambi, a breadwinner who returns home only to grapple with family disappointments. Co-produced by Star Cinema and The IdeaFirst Company, the film stars an impressive ensemble cast featuring Eugene Domingo, Malou de Guzman, Joel Torre, Gladys Reyes, Jhong Hilario, Kokoy de Santos, Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings, and Via Antonio.

As the film enters its third week in cinemas, here’s what celebrities are saying about this heartfelt movie that sheds light on the challenges faced by breadwinners and the vital role of self-love and family support!

Diamond Star Maricel Soriano declated her pride for Vice, “Ang galing ng anak ko. Ang galing-galing mo, anak. Congratulations!”

Also beaming with pride were Vice’s co-hosts in “It’s Showtime!”, Ryan Bang and Darren Espanto. Ryan exclaimed, “Parang hindi pelikula. Parang totoong istorya ng isang pamilya.”

Angeline Quinto fought back tears as she reacted, “Lahat sila may kanya-kanyang bigat na dinadala d’un sa movie, kaya ako naapektuhan.”

“Papahalagahan n’yo ‘yung pamilya n’yo talaga after watching this. It’s really personal,” beauitfully summed up by Bong Gonzalez.

The members of SB19, who performed the film’s official soundtrack “Mapa”, admitted the movie took them on an emotional rollercoaster.

“Napakatraydor po ng movie na ‘to. Sa umpisa papasayahin ka eh...” SB19 Stell shared, with SB19 Justin completing the sentiment, “Tapos biglang magpipigil ka ng luha.”

Even the ladies of BINI were not immune to the film’s emotional impact. Jhoanna, Mikha, Aiah, and Maloi shed tears as they reflected on their favorite scenes.

“Ako, lahat po ng scenes with parents po, dun talaga ako parang bumubuhos,” shared BINI Jhoanna. “Lalo na sa Papa n’ya, kasi parang ‘yung Papa n’ya ‘yung pinakaunang naniwala... nagtiwala sa kanya.”

For BINI Mikha, it was Bambi’s scene with Momsie that brought her to tears: “Naiyak po ako sa scene with the mom po kasi... soft lang din ako pagdating ng parents.”

Reflecting on Bambi’s struggles as a sole provider, BINI Aiah said, “Na-realize ko na... ako kasi may kapatid din ako, so sobrang grateful ako na kaming dalawa nagtutulungan kami. Eh, hindi lahat may ganung privilege so ‘yun, nakakalungkot s’ya, but at the same time, may gratefulness.”

BINI Maloi also related deeply to the scene where Bambi confronts her family during a moment of desperation, recalling, “Siguro may point ng buhay namin na parang dumating... ‘yung nasa lapag ka na, especially nung pandemic. Hindi mo na alam kung sa’n ka pa kakapit kasi ikaw ‘yung breadwinner, ikaw ‘yung nagpapaaral sa mga kapatid mo.”

Drag queens Captivating Katkat, Deja, and more couldn’t get enough of its mix of humor and heartfelt moments.

‘Yung mga jokes, unexpected. Mga bago talaga, as in ‘di mo aasahan na nakakatawa talaga s’yang bonggang bongga,” said Captivating Katkat, winner of Drag Race Philippines Season 2.

Meanwhile, Deja, who won Drag Den PH Season 2, noted how the film balanced its comedic moments with emotional depth: “Andun ‘yung usual n’yang ginagawang pagpapatawa pero may kurot ‘yung film eh.”

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets and let Bambi’s story remind you of the strength it takes to love and the importance of loving yourself, too!
