The Philippines’ first “meta found footage” film Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital continues to win moviegoers over with its innovative style of storytelling. An adaptation of the 2018 Korean horror film Gonijam: Haunted Asylum, the film manages to keep fans engaged with its unique style of delivering the scares.

An ABS-CBN review by Stephanie Mayo called the movie "an ideal choice for families and friends seeking uncomplicated jump scares this MMFF season.” Strange Frequencies is one of the entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival and made its premiere last December 25 and won Best Sound for Ditoy Aguila.

“This film is best enjoyed by casual horror enthusiasts or groups of friends looking for lighthearted thrills,” the review went further. Strange Frequencies also “showcases (Director Kerwin) Go’s technical expertise, affirming that Filipino filmmakers can execute productions on par with Hollywood and Korean standards,” she added.

Other online reviewers like Goldwin Reviews gave the film a 4 out of 5, saying the “movie delivers quality horror entertainment. The flow is well-structured. There’s a fun and playful atmosphere. The cast rapport is great. The film’s technicalities are impressive. It has clean editing given the different camera set ups. The visuals and audio elements blend seamlessly.” Meanwhile, LionHearTV lauded the movie for “bringing a fresh perspective and offering viewers a suspenseful and genuinely eerie viewing experience.”

Strange Frequencies follows a group of thrill seekers who explore Taiwan’s notoriously haunted Xinglin hospital located at West Central District in Tainan City to investigate paranormal activities. With GoPro cameras attached to them, their goal is to hit 3 million views while live streaming themselves exploring the different areas of the building.

Enrique Gil leads the cast of would-be ghost hunters Jane De Leon, Rob Gomez, Alexa Miro, MJ Lastimosa, Raf Pineda, and Ryan “Zarckaroo” Azurin. Enrique pulls double duty as a producer of the film with Erik Matti and Ronald “Dondon” Monteverde of Reality MM Studios (2016 Seklusyon and 2019’s Kuwaresma).

Strange Frequencies was brought to Reality MM Studios by Creative Leaders Group 8 CEO BJ Song (Taxi Driver, Boys Over Flowers, Princess Hours).
