Enrique Gil closed out 2024, a year he described as “new and exciting,” by leading and stepping up as a co-producer for two films.

In addition to showing his fresh take on comedy in “I Am Not Bog Bird,” Gil also spearheaded  “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital,” the first meta found-footage horror movie and an official entry in the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival.

“It feels good working on projects that really excite me. Inspiring. You reach a point, instead of being a smart actor, you just want to do it for fun and love the craft. kaya I did this comedy film, this horror film. I am just enjoying,” Gil said during the red carpet premiere of the MMFF entry in Mandaluyong City, Thursday evening.

“I haven’t enjoyed as much doing projects in a long time. Something new and exciting para mabuhayan ulit fire inside me,” he added.

Joining Gil in “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital,” is Kane de Leon, Alexa Miro, Rob Gomez, MJ lastimosa, Raf Pineda, and Zarckaroo Azurin.

The cast promises that their unscripted adaptation of the 2018 South Korean film “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum” delivers a fresh and thrilling new take on Philippine horror.

“Mag-isa ako pumunta sa isang floor, lahat ng gamit nandoon pa. Ewan ko trip ni Quen mag-isa ako. Iba yung experience, I was so scared. It was very risky for everyone,” De Leon said.

In addition to filming the material themselves, another quirk of the movie, is a glimpse of into cast’s real life personas.

“Naalala ko gano lumabas totoong ugali naming lahat. Jane lumabas pagka protective, ako naman psaway, Maiinis kayo sa akin,” Miro reasoned.

“Hindi siya improv, being real na siya. Di mo na maiisip umarte, pag takot ka na kasi— lalabas totoong ikaw. Napakarami parte ng pagkatao makikita samin,”

The actor shared the projects he worked on, including the people behind the scenes, such as co-producers Dondon Monteverde and Erik Matti of his MMFF entry, inspired him to experiment and likewise further push the limits of Philippine filmmaking.

“I am learning a lot, commend them for pushing the craft, newer genres, and better films for the infustry it inspired me to produce projects pushing bounderies of Philippine cinema that we know of,” he said.

Meanwhile, Monteverde praised Gil’s creativity and determination, expressing his desire to work with him again.

“Maganda kay Enrique, he really contributes ideas. Really important. Talagang gusto ko makasama ulit. Talagang very good exprrience. Marami ako natutunan din sa kanya,” he explained.

According to Gil, he will be focusing on the series he will star and co-produce with ABS-CBN in 2025 but aims to produce at least one film.

“I have a show coming up with ABS.  Also films we are working on but main focus ko is the series and another movie before the end of 2025,” he teased.

“Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital” will hit cinemas nationwide on Christmas Day.
