Hit animated film Tangled is set to be turned into a live-action movie.

According to a report by Variety, Disney is now working on a musical adaptation of the film based on Brothers Grimm's Rapunzel.

Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, is currently in negotiations to direct the upcoming movie.

The animated Tangled movie was released in 2010. The film follows the story of the "magically long-haired Rapunzel [who] has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is," as per its IMDB.

The voice cast members included Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider.

In an interview with MTV News in 2010, Mandy remarked how Rapunzel is not the typical Disney princess and highlighted the character's sense of independence.

"She's not the typical femme fatale or the typical Disney princess even. She doesn't know she's a princess. I think she sort of has this inkling that something isn't quite right in her life, [but] she's just really sort of motivated to find out what else is out there beyond this crazy tower she's lived in for 18 years," she remarked.

The actress-singer went on: "Having said that, she's very independent, she can take care of herself, and she's definitely come up with really entertaining ways to keep herself busy."

Tangled earned $592 million in global box office and became the highest-grossing film of 2010.

It got nominated for Best Original Song for "I See the Light" at the 83rd Oscars. The film was also nominated for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Song at the 68th Golden Globe Awards.

Tangled joins the series of live-action adaptations at Disney following Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin, among others.
