MANILA -- Vice Ganda on Sunday officially kicked off the promotional campaign for her latest movie, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2024 entry "And the Breadwinner Is …"

During the event held at an amusement park, Vice gave fans a glimpse of the film, which promises to deliver more than just laughs.

"Syempre may comedy kasi Vice Ganda movie 'to," said Vice. "Pero first time ko magpapa-iyak ng ganito sa mga viewers. Hindi lang kasi ako, lahat kami may major moment na magpapaiyak at magpapa-realize ng maraming bagay. Usually, patawa lang talaga, pero ito, marami kang emosyon na mararamdaman."

The movie, directed by filmmaker Jun Lana, follows Vice in the role of Bambi, a breadwinner whose life story is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching. 

The teaser trailer has sparked excitement among fans, with some anticipating an acting award for Vice.

"Nakakatuwa kasi teaser pa lang na appreciate na nila naappreciate nila," said Vice. 

"Yung dagdag sa usual movie na napapanood nila at saka yung acting kasi sa mga movies ko dati naglalaro lang kami ito talaga s'yempre Jun Lana yung direktor namin kailangan ko umakting," she added.

When asked about the film's dedication, Vice revealed its universal appeal, saying: "Sa lahat, dinededicate namin ito sa lahat. Ang pelikulang ito ay tungkol sa'yo, tungkol sa amin, tungkol sa nanay mo, sa tatay mo, sa kapatid mo, sa kapitbahay, sa kaibigan mo. Ito ang storya na sasabihin mo, 'Ah, ako 'yan, o ate ko 'yon.'"

Crucial to Vice's performance is their connection with the character of Bambi. 

"Pumasok na sa katawan ko 'yung character ni Bambi. Ang storya niya masyadong personal, kaya 'yung iyak, sigaw, at hagulgol, hindi ko na inarte. Naisigaw ko para sa breadwinners, naiiyak ko 'yung matagal nilang kinimkim," said Vice.

The film's themes resonate so deeply with Vice that a segment in the noontime show It's Showtime was inspired by it. "Yung bago naming segment, 'And the Breadwinner Is,' actually para talaga sa pelikula namin," Vice explained. "Trabahula siya, luma na namin siyang segment, pero may bagong dinagdag."

The cast features Eugene Domingo, Joel Torre, Jhong Hilario, Gladys Reyes, Kokoy de Santos, Lassy Marquez, MC Calaquian, Ion Perez, Petite, Divine Tetay, Gina Pareño, Al Tantay, Kiko Matos, Via Antonio, Malou De Guzman, and Negi. 

Additionally, Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings make their cinema debut as a love team.

"Nung nalaman namin kay Meme Vice Ganda, grabe hindi kami makapaniwala. Kinilig talaga kami matagal ko na gusto makatrabaho si Meme," said Racal.

"And the Breadwinner Is…" under a collaboration between Star Cinema and Ideafirst company is one of the ten official entries of MMFF 2024 and will hit cinemas nationwide on December 25.

"Sana po mapanood niyo 'yung pelikula kasi proud na proud po kami dito. Ako, sasabihin ko, hindi naman magtatampo 'yung nanay ko na si Wenn Deramas kasi sa kanya naman nag-umpisa lahat ng ito. Pero alam ko, hindi siya magtatampo pag sinabi ko, I believe this is my best movie so far," said Vice.
