“Sidelined: QB and Me” is a romantic comedy with heart, humor, and history-making representation. The film is more than just the average love story – it’s a game-changer.

Lead star Siena Agudong, a Filipino-American actress, shared what it meant for her to see Filipino culture front and center in a Hollywood romcom.

“I feel emotional about it but I'm so honored,” said Agudong, whose grandmother is from the Philippines who later came to Hawaii. “I just don't think there's anything more I can say, but thank you. I'm so happy to be here representing Filipino culture and representing Hawaiian culture. It's so amazing.”

Agudong’s character Dallas brings spunk, heart, and her heritage to life, shining a light on the Fil-Am experience in a way that feels fresh and authentic.

“It’s very refreshing to see a female character on-screen [who] knows what she wants and so when love comes around, obviously, that's so exciting,” the actress said, “but she's so driven and it's not that she doesn't think she can get the hot guy. She has her goals and priorities.”

Asia Lizardo, the niece of Philippine actor and now senator, Robin Padilla, is also in the movie.

She talked about the impact of Filipino representation in a genre dominated by familiar tropes.

“It’s amazing. I was so ecstatic,” Lizardo said of her role. “Working with her (Agudong) was such a light, and it was such a privilege.”

The actress added: “I’ve honestly dreamt about this day for a really, really long time. When you’re a kid, you’re dreaming about the day that you get to go to the premiere. It’s honestly so surreal.”

But what’s a romcom without a dashing love interest? Enter Noah Beck, making his acting debut as the all-American quarterback with a heart of gold.

The actor said it was not difficult to act being in love with Siena.

"Siena is the best,” Beck said. “She was just so amazing to have as my first co-star, to create something with someone that is so excited every single day to wake up. Her energy is just contagious."

The movie — directed by Justin Wu and was based on Tay Marley’s story — also stars James Van Der Beek.
