Blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Sampana explained the reason she chooses to make films with happy endings.

"It's so easy to become a director. You get a camera, point, shoot, edit, voilà, you already are a director. But the biggest question is what kind of director are you and why are you even telling this story?" Cathy pointed out in an interview with Bernadette Sembrano for the latter's latest YouTube vlog.

The director relayed that it was director Marilou Diaz-Abaya who inspired her to tell stories that will provide joy to moviegoers.

Na-inculcate sa akin ni direk Marilou 'yun eh that cinema is an art but a form of entertainment so at the end of the day we entertain people," she highlighted.

The director shared that it became her goal to make the audience feel happy after watching her films.

Kasi sabi sa akin ni direk Marilou, 'You see, the awards, the award-giving bodies that's okay.

From then on, touching the hearts of many audiences through the film gave Cathy the fulfillment as a director.

"It became my trophy. Every time maraming nanonood sa pelikula ko, my heart is overflowing with joy, because I know naka-touch ako ng hearts," she said.

The Hello, Love, Again director also shared her definition of success when it comes to directing.

"Success is measured by the number of hearts you touch with your films and I think I will forever do that until the day na mag-stop na ako mag-direk. I will forever attempt that every time I tell a story, it's a story that will touch the hearts of the manonood, [na] paglabas nila ng sinehan, they would want to love life and love again," she stated.
