In a previous interview with Vogue, Rosé shared that she got the inspiration for the song when she was playing the drinking game with her team in the recording studio.

As for how the collaboration with Bruno Mars came to be, Rosé shared: "Last year, Bruno came to perform in Korea, in Seoul and my friends were like, 'Do you wanna go watch a Bruno Mars concert?' And so ever since then I was like, 'Oh my god, I love Bruno Mars, I play his songs all the time.'"
