State necrological service for Nora Aunor to be held at the Met

MANILA -- The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) are set to hold a necrological service to honor superstar and National Artist For Film Nora Aunor, who passed away last April 16.

In a press announcement, the NCCA and CCP said that the necrological service honoring the life and legacy of Aunor will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila.

The arrival honors will start at 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by a tribute program at 9 a.m. The state funeral rites will continue at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

The public is invited to attend the necrological service. Limited seats are available. The registration link will be released on Monday through the official social media pages of the CCP and NCCA.

The necrological service will be livestreamed on both the CCP and NCCA Facebook pages for those who are unable to attend in person but wish to pay their respects. 

Born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, Aunor diesd at the age 71.  She started her entertainment career in the 1960s as a singer and was known for her "golden voice."

Aunor's successful stint in the popular television show Tawag ng Tanghalan along with her appearance in Darigold Jamboree, led to her phenomenal rise earning the iconic title of the Philippine film industry’s “Superstar.” 

She went on to do powerful portrayals in films such as "Himala" in 1982, "Bulaklak sa City Jail" in 1984, and "The Flor Contemplacion Story" in 1995. 

Aunor received recognition and awards for her acting prowess, including Best Actress honors at Gawad Urian and FAMAS for her performance in "Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos."

In 2022, Aunor was conferred the Order of National Artist by the Office of the President. The Order of National Artist is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts.
