The fashion designer behind BLACKPINK Lisa's looks during her solo debut at Coachella on Friday, April 11 (US time) shared the inspirations behind the K-pop idol’s outfits.

"The stage of the lab wherein we can explore different silhouettes. My twist is very creature couture," designer Asher Levine said in an interview with CNN.

For Lisa’s first bodysuit, Asher revealed that the outfit was inspired by a reptile.

"I pitched a full suit where she's this reptilian villain," he said. "Our sculpture studio creates these intricate patterns for then other things to come alive. Just the shoulder [alone] could be 50 or 60 combined hours [of work]."

Asher shared how each of Lisa’s outfits was conceptualized and tailored specifically for high-energy performances. "Building these pieces for performance is literally like building it for a sports athlete," he said.

For Lisa’s second look, Asher drew inspiration from "bioluminescent insects and translucent fungi with illuminating veins running through the petals."

The second look features luminescent tendrils with fiberoptic light.

The designer expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to create a performance outfit for a global pop star like Lisa.

"I feel so humbled and grateful because we have this global pop stars coming to my label. They love this biomorphic weird aesthetic," he stated. "And that's who kind of my customer is like. You're the alien, you're the other. You're avant-garde."

He added: "People have been putting nature on themselves for thousands of years — flowers, animal prints — but now what's exotic 2.0?"

This is the third time that Lisa performed at Coachella following BLACKPINK's past performances in 2019 and 2023.

For her Coachella solo debut, Lisa's set ran for 55 minutes and featured 13 songs.

The K-Pop idol released her first studio album ALTER EGO on February 28.

In 2024, Lisa released three singles including "Rockstar," "New Woman," and "Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me)" from the record.

The BLACKPINK member won the Best K-Pop award for "Rockstar" at the VMAs last year.
