6 shows added to PH staging of 'Into the Woods' musical

Heads up, theater fans: the run of the Philippine staging of Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods" has been extended.

On Friday, Theatre Group Asia (TGA) announced that six shows have been added from August 28 to 31 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater:

- August 28, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

- August 29, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

- August 30, Saturday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

- August 31, Sunday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

According to a statement released by TGA, the extension was in response to the "overwhelming public demand that saw close to 30,000 tickets sold out within the first two hours of the box office opening."

"This only illustrates how the Philippine theater scene is so alive! More and more, Filipinos are becoming more enthusiastic about theater once again, and this can only be a good thing for the industry and for our Philippine talents and creatives," said the show's executive producer, Chris Mohnani. 

"While we anticipated the surge due to the growing public excitement since our announcement, we couldn't have imagined this level of public response, which can only be described as phenomenal," he added.

Leading the cast of "Into the Woods" is Tony and Olivier winner Lea Salonga as The Witch in her Philippine musical theater homecoming after 6 years. This also marks her first performance with her only child Nic Chien, who will play the role of Jack. 

Other members of the star-studded lineup include Arielle Jacobs, Eugene Domingo, Mark Bautista, and Nyoy Volante, among others. 

Based on James Lapine's book, "Into the Woods" intertwines several fairy tale characters and shows the impact of human choices and actions.
