MANILA -- Theater veterans and real-life couple Nyoy Volante and Mikkie Bradshaw are joining the cast of the Philippine staging of "Into the Woods."

The upcoming production by Theatre Group Asia (TGA) is slated for August at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati.

Volante and Bradshaw will play the roles of The Baker and The Baker's Wife, respectively, in the Stephen Sondheim musical. 

"I get to play with my wife in this musical! I'm so thrilled to be working with her again!" Volante said in a statement released by TGA on Friday.

Bradshaw, for her part, said: "The Baker's Wife has been a dream role of mine, and I can't wait to breathe life into a character I've fantasized about playing for over a decade now."

"Into the Woods," based on a book by James Lapine, is a dark comedy that intertwines several fairy tale characters' exploits.

Previously announced cast members of the upcoming musical include Tony Award winner Lea Salonga (The Witch), comedienne Eugene Domingo (Jack's mother), Filipino-American Broadway star Arielle Jacobs (Cinderella), and London-based theater actor Joaquin Pedro Valdes. 

Volante and Bradshaw last worked together in the local run of the Tony Award-winning musical "Kinky Boots."
