The Philippine staging of Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods" continues to build its star-studded cast.

Mark Bautista, whose stage credits include "The Full Monty," "Noli Me Tangere," and "Here Lies Love," was recently announced as Rapunzel's Prince. 

"I've never played the role of a prince before, so this is going to be exciting for me," he said. "Falling in love with a princess is quite interesting as well. It's a musical with so many intriguing characters and loads of references and elements in the story."

"Also, the fact that this is going to be my first Sondheim musical makes me feel more excited than ever to get involved with such a special material." 

Joreen Bautista, dubbed the "Filipina Disney Princess" on TikTok, will take on the role of Rapunzel, on top of her other roles as Cinderella's Mother and Sleeping Beauty in the production. 

She has gained a presence in the European theater scene after playing the role of Kim in "Miss Saigon" productions in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, and Switzerland. 

"I'm excited to bring Rapunzel's whimsical yet emotional journey to life in my first musical in the Philippines, surrounded by such talented artists," she said. 

"What I love about 'Into the Woods' is how Sondheim uses music and lyrics...and a whole of magic... to reveal the raw and imperfect sides of our beloved fairy tale characters, making their stories feel more human," she added. 

Teetin Villanueva, meanwhile, is the newest addition to the cast of "Into the Woods." She will play the character of Little Red Riding Hood.

Her musical appearances include roles in "Rak of Aegis," "Rock of Ages," "Ang Huling El Bimbo," and the recently staged "Mula sa Buwan," among others.

"When I was growing up, my dad read us stories and fairy tales. I love that in this musical, we get to see familiar characters from different fairy tales all together in one story. I also love how catchy and challenging the songs are, and there are lots of little nuggets of wisdom in the material," Villanueva said. 

"This is the wordiest repertoire I've been given the opportunity to learn in my career so far," she added. "Apart from learning Little Red's songs and getting to be a kid again onstage, I'm also looking forward to exploring and adding my own flavor of wonder and feistiness to the role." 

The three join previously announced cast members such as Lea Salonga, Arielle Jacobs, and Joaquin Valdes. 

"Into the Woods" will be staged at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati this August.
