Eugene Domingo is the latest addition to the star-studded cast of the Philippine staging of "Into the Woods," a musical by Stephen Sondheim.

The comedienne will play the role of Jack's mother from "Jack and the Beanstalk," according to an announcement by Theatre Group Asia (TGA) on Monday.

She will join the likes of Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, who will reprise her role as The Witch after 30 years; and Filipino-American Broadway star Arielle Jacobs, who will take on the character of Cinderella.

"I am so excited to be a part of this popular and critically acclaimed musical as Jack's mother. I love that the material is inspired by fairy tales yet reveals a realistic twist we can all relate to," Domingo said in a statement released by TGA.

"I love all the surprises that come after the characters are all put together. This one entertains as much as it teaches," she added.

"Into the Woods," based on a book by James Lapine, is a dark comedy that intertwines several fairy tale characters' exploits.

It will be staged at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati in August.
