MANILA -- For the first time, the Philippines will host the Miss Tourism International pageant this November.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 22, during a press conference led by Miss Tourism International president and owner Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi and Mutya ng Pilipinas president Cory Quirino.

Miss Tourism International, established in 1994, is the longest-running tourism pageant in the world. The 28th edition will bring together 45 to 50 candidates from all over the globe to compete for the coveted title.

Ooi expressed his excitement about hosting the global event in the Philippines. "We will be able to help promote the Philippines to the world in every event and, of course, the delegates that are coming here."

He went on: "It's gonna be exciting -- we will see a lot of places so they can promote the Philippines to their countries. When we held our finals, we had 2 million people watching the show, so I think this is a good time to bring the world to the Philippines. I know the girls will be excited because for some of them, it’s their first time."

Quirino, equally thrilled, emphasized the significance of the partnership between the Philippines and Malaysia in promoting tourism.

"We want to give them the Philippine experience in the same manner that the Department of Tourism promotes Philippine tourism.
