Filipino-American Broadway star Arielle Jacobs is joining the cast of the upcoming Philippine run of Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods."

She will play the role of Cinderella in the production by Theatre Group Asia (TGA) this August at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati.

"This is a role I've always wanted to play. To be playing it while sharing the stage with my friend and hero Lea Salonga on a Philippine stage is a dream come true on so many levels," Jacob said in a statement released by TGA.

Jacobs is the second cast member of "Into the Woods" to be announced after Salonga, who will portray The Witch.

She was part of the Florida production of the musical as the Baker's Wife. Some of her Broadway credits include "In the Heights," "Wicked," "Aladdin," and "Here Lies Love."

"I am filled with joy. I have long wished to perform in the Philippines," said Jacobs, who was born in San Francisco to a Filipino mother and an American-Jewish father.

"I feel so lucky to have this opportunity to bring my art back to where my family came from, for the Filipino people I love so much, and in a show that is very special and dear to my heart."

TGA's Clint Ramos said they aim to connect artists of Filipino heritage from the international theater community, as well as local performers in the Philippines.

"Arielle has starred in several Broadway shows and touring productions worldwide but has never done a full-length musical in the Philippines. We're happy she can bring her experience and talent to our production of 'Into The Woods,' at the same time, she gets the chance to discover more about her heritage and roots," he said.
