Bela Padilla, known for constantly embracing roles that push her craft, reveals her latest performance in the newest MMK episode is her among the most physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging to date.

The star leads the special two-part episode based on the true story of a Filipina trafficked into a scam hub in Myanmar—an issue that continues to victimize OFWs and jobseekers around the world.

“I was always surrounded by men in set. Ang daming scenes where I had to struggle. She was in captivity for 45 days. The mental process was I had to get into that. That is why I wanted the script,” she said in an interview held in Quezon City, Friday.

While Padilla admitted that portraying the character’s harrowing ordeal was deeply demanding, she was more than willing to endure the discomfort to give voice to a story that matters.

“I consulted a nutritionist. I wanted to lose weight so I can show the change from part 1 to part 2. Kasi 45 days in captivity. Drastic changes. She read the script over and over din the make-up artist. So we could justify it,” she said.

“I had nightmares, I was thinking of the location. but I am like this with my MMK roled— because I really got into their head. I was able debriefed now,” she added.

The actress hopes the episode does more than just move its viewers but inform them as well.

“The scam hub where Nadia came from is fully operational, so we hope it can bring awareness to Filipinos worldwide. It can happen to anyone,” she said.

Beyond honoring the victims’ stories through her scenes, Padilla highlighted the production’s deep commitment to authenticity—from the smallest to biggest details on set.

“May isang location kami, sa part 2, when I entered the set. It was an old abandoned building. Pag pasok ko pa lang, tumayo balahibo ko. I started crying. Even our director, he was so scared. There was something eerie about the set. Probably because of the production designer and probably because you already know what you will shoot in there. It added so much to the texture,” she said.
