The cast of Barefoot Theatre Collaborative’s first offering of the year, We Aren’t Kids Anymore, shared several lessons they learned and what the audience can take home after watching the musical. In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN during the sneak peek of their rehearsals last March 28, one lesson resonated among all of them–– facing one’s fears together.

We Aren’t Kids Anymore is a coming-of-age musical by Drew Gasparini. The story revolves around the lives of five people who explore the complexities of childhood. Starring in this Barefoot Theatre Collaborative production is an all-star cast–– Gab Pangilinan, Gio Gahol, Luigi Quesada, Myke Salomon, and Maronne Cruz.

Gab expressed how the audience could realize after watching the highly-anticipated musical that everyone’s going through life for the first time.

“We are all figuring our stuff out and yes, you may leave the theater feeling a little less alone in life because you would realize that oh wow I’m not the only one who's going through stuff. Everyone has their own baggage, everybody deals with changes–– their own things,” she shared.

Maronne and Gio added how growing up is inevitable and everyone must face it head on and with a brave heart.

“Growing up can feel like a lonely thing but just know that everyone feels lonely while growing up. It’s really not that lonely because we're all in this together,” Maronne said.

“Jumping into adulthood–– some of those freedoms–– they start to feel like baggage that hinders you from moving forward. You have to face that. Sana mapulot yung ganun aral,” Gio added.

Myke, on the other hand, maintained that they aren’t there to teach a lesson to the audience but rather to unpack the things everyone already knows but hasn’t been talked about.

“We are here to present and we’re here to tackle it together, to unpack it and process it together,” Myke said.

Catch We Aren’t Kids Anymore starting this May 2 until May 25 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati.
