Being at the receiving end of online bashing after her recent eviction from Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition, it has been difficult for AC Bonifacio to see her mother, Cherry Lapidario, in pain due to the hateful comments thrown at her.

“It really hurts when I finally saw her hurting, when I saw her crying over things people were saying about me," AC told PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview.

The 22-year-old Kapamilya artist admitted that she did not expect the online bashing to be this intense, saying she only realized it the moment she returned to the outside world.

“With the bashing that has been going on, overwhelming po talaga siya ‘pag labas ko eh,” she said. “People need to understand na when we were inside, we literally know nothing. And when issues happen, we resolve them, and we move on. So ‘pag labas ko nagulat po ako na biglang ah, ‘yung nangyari two weeks ago, nangyayari pa rin pala talaga sa labas. So, it was very overwhelming na parang I was trying to understand how to deal with it all over again.”

AC’s mother, who in some instances responded to online comments, also admitted that it has been taking a toll on her health.

However, the actress-dancer assured that they will get through this challenging time.

“I know my mom is strong,” she said. “The reason why I’m strong is because she’s strong. So as long as I keep myself strong, I know she will also. We’re the same person po kasi talaga. And she raised me to be this independent, strong girl talaga. So ‘pag kinakaya ko, alam ko kakayanin din niya.”

AC further described her relationship with her mom, saying they are a “strong duo.”

“It’s like a relationship,” she said. “If she’s 50 percent right now, I’ll be her other 50 percent. If she's 20 percent, I will be her 80 percent. Bina-balance lang talaga namin ang isa't isa that’s why we’re such a strong duo; we’ve such a strong bond.”

“Sana nilagay kami ni mommy sa bahay ni kuya talaga,” she jokingly said.

In the same interview, AC also recounted her first encounter with her mother after she exited the Big Brother house.

“When my mom and I finally got to reconnect after PBB, [there were] a lot of sorrys and a lot of ‘I miss you,” she told PUSH ABS-CBN. “I just gave her a big, big, big hug. I kept kissing her and I was like ‘I miss you so much.’ Sinasabi ko lagi kay Kuya na gusto [ko] marinig ang boses mo and makita lang kita, and through that picture, I was able to see her. [Sabi ko] kakayanin ko, kakayanin ko. So, I kept kissing her, I kept saying I’m sorry.”

During her stay in PBB, AC became emotional as she shared that it was her first time to be disconnected with her mom, as she has always maintained a constant communication with her even when they are physically apart.

For AC, the backlash on social media is not entirely bad, as she also recognizes constructive criticisms as an avenue to improve herself.

“I understood that there are some comments that are constructive criticisms that I really do need to take in because as I said, I am a 22-year-old human being learning how to live life the same way everyone else [does],” she said.

Amid the online bashing, the actress-dancer will still strive to be a “better person.”

“Right now, I'm just taking in everything that I can to be a better person,” she said. “Yun naman 'yung goal every day, to be a better person. And If I made a mistake two weeks ago, yesterday, even in the future, I would always choose to be a better person. Those bashings, I will take them [positively], to something that will bring light to everything but not to the point that it will take me down.”

AC has been trying to reconnect with her loved ones and friends as she admitted that she is still processing everything that had happened during her PBB journey.

She was evicted from PBB last March 29, along with Kapuso actress Ashley Ortega after their three-week stay. They were the first evictees of the reality show’s Celebrity Collab edition.
