Kapamilya star Charo Santos took to her Instagram to bid farewell to Pope Francis who passed away on April 21. The FPJ's Batang Quiapo actress expressed how the Vatican leader showed what it meant to be a man for others.

Pope Francis died of a stroke causing a coma and irreversible heart failure according to the death certificate released by the Vatican hours after his death was announced.

Charo is just one of the few celebrities who mourned on social media over the passing of Pope Francis.

“So many beloved figures have left us recently and now, Pope Francis, the gentle shepherd of our faith. It’s a heavy time, but even in sorrow, we are reminded of one of Pope Francis’ most powerful messages: 'Do not let yourselves be robbed of hope,'” she wrote.

She added that the late Pope made her feel that God was “within reach” for everyone as he served all which included the marginalized sectors of the world.

“Pope Francis was truly a man for others—a true Jesuit. With humility, humanity, and deep compassion, he made us feel that God was close—within reach. He broke down barriers, looked beyond traditions, and embraced those the world often forgets. He was a Pope for the poor, the wounded, the searching,” Charo added.

The veteran actress then recalled the time she saw the Pope during his visit in the country back in 2015. For her, the experience of seeing him was different as she felt seen and heard despite being just one of the millions that welcomed him.

“When he came to the Philippines, we felt seen. We felt loved. He walked with us in the rain—and for a moment, it felt like heaven came down to touch our hearts,” she narrated.

For Charo, the late Vatican leader was a reminder how people should be treating one another in this world–– full of love.

“He had a light sense of humor, a deep well of empathy, and a kind of wisdom that didn’t need to shout. He empowered women in the Vatican, expanded the horizons of the Church, and reminded us that faith should always meet people where they are—with love,” she wrote.

“You showed us that kindness is strength. That humility leads to greatness. That hope is never lost,” she continued.

The Vatican leader was 88 years old and will be remembered by the members of the Catholic Church as someone who challenged the centuries-old teachings of the institution and giving a different take on one’s faith.
