With both David Licauco and his onscreen partner Barbie Forteza currently single, the actor was asked whether he is ready to take their offscreen connection to the next level.

In an interview with Dolly Anne Carvajal on the Dollywood PH YouTube channel, David highlighted that both he and Barbie are prioritizing personal growth at the moment following their respective breakups.

"Barbie just off from a relationship and also me... I think Barbie is really focusing on her self-growth, self-love, same with me," he remarked.

"Right now, I just really see things how they are. If it happens, whatever happens in life, it's gonna happen."

David was also asked if he believes in the "three-month rule" when it comes to dating after a breakup.

"That's very subjective, 'yung three months, case to case eh. I think it really depends on the person. Some can like move on in a week, some can move in like three months, five months but I think it's always better to really focus on yourself first after breakup."

Having gone through a recent breakup himself, the actor reiterated that his current focus is self-growth.

As for his friendship with Barbie, David said, "We are really good friends. Definitely more comfortable around each other."

David and Barbie first worked together on the series Maria Clara at Ibarra.

They then starred in the series Maging Sino Ka Man and Pulang Araw.

They headlined their first movie together in That Kind of Love.

In an episode of Bida/Bida by Netflix Philippines, David and Barbie collectively known as "BarDa," discussed why they think Filipino audiences are big fans of love teams.

"Siguro kasi we give them the satisfaction of the kilig feeling, di ba 'yung mga first love... Ang sarap kiligin, lahat ng tao na in love, nai-in love," Barbie remarked.

She further highlighted: "Very relatable rin kasi siya di ba? 'Yung pinapakita natin kung paano tayo unang na in love, paano magbre-break, paano maga-away."

David added that he thinks love teams are popular in the Philippines because "it's a form of escape" for many.

"'Yung iba nagsasabi meron daw silang anxiety and because of us na nakakatulong tayo sa kanila kaya I'm super grateful na may love team," he said.
