Elijah Canlas has many memories of his late brother JM. Aside from JM’s acting stints and competitiveness in badminton, Elijah revealed JM’s other hobbies they enjoyed doing together.

During the second year of the JM Canlas Badminton Cup by the KULIT organization, PUSH ABS-CBN had the chance to speak with Elijah. He shared how talented JM was in music as well.

“He was self-taught. Noong pandemic, lalo. Mas na-enhance yung guitar skills niya and songwriting skills. He was taking voice lessons and music lessons. So, he was trying to, you know, parang i-diversify pa yung range ng talent niya,” Elijah revealed.

The award-winning actor also shared how JM helped him with some of his music performances: “I had this Halloween event. Yung pandemic days na online, it’s a live event. Tapos, I performed the song. Tapos, nag-aaral kami kung paano. Kasi, siya talaga pinaka magaling mag-gitara sa amin.”

Elijah went on to share how playing music brought them closer.

“Bonding namin yun. Usually, sasabihin niya ‘Kuya, listen to this’ tapos, tutugtog siya ng Daniel Caesar song, tutugtog siya ng Olivia Rodrigo song. Basta quick learner talaga siya. He's a very smart kid. Kaya, nakakamiss yung mga ganung moments with him,” he expressed.

He also revealed that JM used to write his own compositions: “Gumagawa siya ng mga kanta din. Paparinig niya sa akin. O di kaya pag gumawa ako ng kanta, sila ng kuya ko, silang dalawa yung unang makakarinig.”

Aside from music, JM was also very into gaming and streaming.

“Ibang level siya ng gamer. He used to stream online din. While he was gaming. He had a gaming channel. Tapos, he was streaming live. Bago pa sumikat siguro yung streaming saka mga ibang streamers ngayon, si JM yung nagturo sa iba sa kanila kung paano mag-setup ng PC, ng streaming software, ng streaming app. So, sobrang gamer talaga siya,” Elijah said.

The Senior High star also mentioned that he used to join JM’s online streams.

“I remember, nung early pandemic, he wanted to do esports naman. Ang daming niyang gusto, ang daming niyang pangarap. Tapos, bonding namin din na mag-guest ako sa live niya, sa streaming show niya, whatever that was. Or kaming family, sometimes mag-guest kami doon. O di kaya kami ang kuya ko, maglalaro kami ng basketball sa video games,” he shared.

Elijah continued sharing how JM also taught him some games: “Kung ano mang video game yung meron siya, lalaroin namin while we're online. O di kaya, tuturuan niya ako ng mga games like Valorant, Fortnite. Hardcore gamer siya.”
