Currently getting praise from viewers and netizens for her impressive portrayal of multilingual spy Gabriela Rivera in the action series Incognito, actress Maris Racal said she has her Ilonggo co-star Joel Torre to thank for helping her character speak Hiligaynon so convincingly. In real life, Maris was born and grew up in Davao del Norte.
Currently getting praise from viewers and netizens for her impressive portrayal of multilingual spy Gabriela Rivera in the action series Incognito, actress Maris Racal said she has her Ilonggo co-star Joel Torre to thank for helping her character speak Hiligaynon so convincingly. “When shooting teleseryes, you get so many surprises, (even) first thing in the morning. I remembered that day. So going to the set, I was already very nervous. I’m going to do scenes with sir Joel Torre, who I look up to when it comes to acting. And then, nasa set kaming dalawa, sa standby area, and then biglang pumasok si direk. ‘Okay, so Gab, Ilonggo ka dito ha?’ So surprise yun lahat. So thank God Bisaya ako.

Si Anthony (Jennings) is Ilonggo actually, and then his kuya was there also. There were even lines na hindi Ilonggo, pero sabi ko hindi, itodo natin ito (laughs). So pina-translate ko. So nagpaturo ako,” she revealed.

“While watching the trailer, nung mga times na shinoot namin yan, hindi namin alam kung everyday laging pinapataas yung intensity ng action stunts, yung weather, and while shooting that, ang lagi naming tanong, ‘Kaya pa ba ito?’ Pero kapag napanuod mo na, worth it talaga lahat yung pagod and everything,” she said.

“Mid-season na kami so the fact na ang dami pa ring sumusuporta at sumusubaybay sa show namin, we’re all very, very grateful. Ako, marami rami na rin akong nagawa sa career ko but this one is really one of the most challenging ones kasi physically demanding siya, emotionally demanding siya, and idagdag mo pa yung extreme weather conditions na minsan imposible (laughs).
“Mid-season na kami so the fact na ang dami pa ring sumusuporta at sumusubaybay sa show namin, we’re all very, very grateful. It’s what keeps you watching. Kasi yun yung passion ng character, yun yung passion ng story. Sinusundan nila yung puso ng story,” she explained.
"But with the support ng mga kapamilya, sobrang grateful kami. "We’re very, very grateful. Grateful din ako sa lahat ng tao sa likod ng camera kasi grabe din. Kung nahihirapan kami, grabe sa kanila ten times harder. So sobrang mahal namin sila. Sobrang mahal namin itong team na ito. Thank you for all the support," she added.
