MANILA -- Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy is safe after his flight from Manila to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Japan.

In his Instagram post on Thursday, Jo Koy uploaded a video which showed him and his family having a meal.

"We were on our way back to LA from Philippines when the entire cabin filled with smoke (due to electrical fire). We then made an emergency landing into Tokyo, Japan," he said in the caption.

In the video, Jo Koy commended the crew of Philippine Airlines for "remaining calm in a situation that could have gone south fast."

"We are safe, we are in Tokyo, and our next flight out is in nine hours so we are going to have some sake. I love you guys," he said.

According to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, the flight including Jo Koy left Manila around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

All its passengers and crew were reported safe after the emergency landing at Haneda Airport in Japan early Thursday.

Just recently, Jo Koy graced "It's Showtime" and shared his visit to Bacolod where he took part in activities for his foundation.

Jo Koy is shooting his newest special for Netflix and will have a show at the Mall of Asia Arena on June 21 as part of his "Just Being Koy" tour.
