Patricia shared that their story began in 2003, when she was invited to a show in the US. "Na-invite ako dun ng Filipino community natin sa San Diego, California. Tapos may concert tapos kasama ako nila Jaya dun, pinakanta kami," Patricia recalled in an interview with Korina Sanchez on NET25.

Rob happened to be at the same event, attending with a friend. "'Yung sponsors night na dinner, he was there with his friend. Pinakilala kaming dalawa," the actress recounted.

Rob added: "My friend is a chiropractor as well and he's married to a Filipina, and they just said hey, you should come with us to this banquet... Then we kind of met."

While it wasn’t love at first sight in the traditional sense, Rob admitted there was an instant spark.

"There was certainly an attraction. She had this like big poster and I was like wow she's maganda so certainly there was an attraction. There was a connection we had, and we were able to meet up later that night and do a lot of talking so we had a nice connection in the beginning," he relayed.

After becoming a couple, Rob proposed to Patricia nine months later. "I went to the Philippines in December that year, and I met the family and did all the normal sightseeing things, Boracay, like that... Tapos, she came back in April and that's when I proposed." Robert shared.

Looking back, Rob said that proposing to Patricia was a great decision, as a long-distance relationship would have been difficult at that time.

"I figured, you know, it's like if I didn't do that, I don't think it would have lasted because it's very hard [to be in] a long distance [relationship], and this was 2003 before Facebook or anything like that, so I think now it's a lot easier with Facebook this time and social media," he recalled.

The couple got married and settled in San Diego, where they lived for 13 years and raised their children. "I do love where we live in San Diego, and I had a nice clinic, and we had a nice life but now in hindsight I should've just come here," Robert said.

When asked about her life in the U.S. during that time, Patricia shared: "Siyempre focus ako sa family, housewife."

Even while managing domestic life, Patricia explored her interests, as she studied to be an aesthetician and worked as a DJ.

Patricia highlighted that Rob has always been supportive of her, which she considered a sign that she had found "the one."

"You know what, iyon 'yung isa kong nagustuhan ko sa kanya kasi ever since nung nagpa-sexy ako, I have this insecurity sa sarili ko na baka wala na talagang mag-seryoso sa akin kasi nga iyon 'yung career ko. Tapos nung siya, sobrang proud siya sa akin sa mga ginagawa ko. Sabi ko, I think this is really the one," Patricia stated.
