South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun has broken his silence weeks after allegations of him dating the late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor were posted on social media. The Queen of Tears star held a press conference earlier today to defend his side and deny the allegations thrown at him.

Kim Soo-hyun has been dropped by many of his brand endorsements following the public backlash that transpired.

“I consider myself a coward. I have always been too preoccupied with holding on to what I have. I couldn’t even trust the goodwill that came my way, always fearing loss, harm and running away, denying everything. That’s why it took me so long to stand here today,” he shared in the press conference as translated by Korean news site Korea JoongAng Daily.

The South Korean actor then admitted to dating Kim Sae-ron but only when she was of legal age. He shared how he felt sorry to deny the dating allegations previously but he claimed that he had to do it for the sake of his ongoing drama then, Queen of Tears.

“I hesitated every time. Thinking about the impact my decisions would have on others. Whether [my decisions] would push everybody including me into trouble,” he said.

“When Queen of Tears was airing, I had so much to protect as its lead actor. What would have happened if I had admitted to a yearlong relationship. What would happen to the actors,  the staff who were working overnight and the production team who had all everything staked on that project. What would happen to our agency's employees,” he added.

Despite dating the late South Korean actress, Kim Soo-hyun maintained that he isn’t the reason for her death and had nothing to do with it.

“It is not true that she had made this tragic choice because of me or my agency pressuring her over a debt,” he maintained.

“We dated with good feelings and after some time, we broke up. After that, we weren't able to contact each other like we used to. Just like any other couple,  contacting a lover after breaking up is a very cautious thing,” he continued.

After the press conference, Kim Soo-hyun didn’t entertain any questions and left the stage while his lawyer revealed that they are filing legal cases against the family of Kim Sae-ron and the YouTube channel that uploaded everything.

“Kim has addressed the issue directly. And standing by his will, Kim Soo-hyun and Goldmedalist have requested the law firm explore both criminal and civil litigation to get the facts straight. We have filed a complaint against the family of the deceased and Hoverlab operators while filing a complaint on damages worth 12 billion won to the Supreme Central District Court,” the lawyer shared.

The family of Kim Sae-ron have yet to make a comment as of writing.
