Martin Nievera opened up about why he continues to work closely with his ex-wife, Pops Fernandez, despite their past as a former couple.

In an interview with Bernadette Sembrano in her latest YouTube vlog, Martin emphasized that their connection goes beyond romance, highlighting a deeper purpose behind their enduring partnership, both as performers and co-parents.

"I think God put us together for a reason" he said. "And I don’t think just because you're no longer wearing the ring, or you're no longer intimate, or because of some friction that happened, some really bad chapter in your life, that you’re no longer together, means that you're no longer connected."

The former couple, who share two sons, have maintained a strong professional relationship over the years. They often perform together and continue to be seen as one of OPM’s iconic love teams.

For Martin, their bond is rooted not just in shared history, but also in a sense of responsibility to their fans.

"God put us together for a reason and it also seems to be a reason for the public," he highlighted. "We have a lot to be grateful for as a love team, an onscreen love team, so we have to continue that. People are still hopeful, whether it's going to happen ever or not ever, whatever it is."

He added that their onstage chemistry remains authentic and unscripted.

"What you see on stage, we have no script. They give us guidelines, we never follow it," he relayed. "We still have fights and arguments because we are still raising our kids from separate homes so on stage and off stage, is really what you see, this friendship, this concern, this team. Literally a team. The true meaning of what a love team, or a team filled with love should be."

Last February, Martin and Pops were reunited for a Valentine concert titled Always & Forever at the Mall of Asia Arena.
