(UPDATE) Kim Soo-hyun dated the late actress Kim Sae-ron but not when she was a minor, his agency admitted Friday, as mounting allegations threatened the South Korean actor’s career.

Gold Medalist confirmed the relationship in a statement that sought to address the issues thrown at Soo-hyun in relation to Sae-ron and her death, Korean entertainment website Soompi reported.

“Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron were in a relationship from the summer of 2019, after Kim Sae-ron became a legal adult, until the fall of 2020,” Gold Medalist said in the statement published in full by Soompi.

This development, however, contradicts Gold Medalist’s earlier statements denying the two stars—who once belonged to the same agency—dated.

Gold Medalist was supposed to issue a statement in defense of the 37-year-old actor next week, but released it earlier as Soo-hyun began to show “signs of severe psychological instability.”

“We have taken measures to ensure that he can achieve absolute stability,” the company said.

Earlier this week, YouTube channel HoverLab Inc. accused the “Queen of Tears” star of starting a relationship with Sae-ron when she was 15 years old. The pair have a 13-year age gap.

As the issues against Soo-hyun surfaced, some brands began pulling out their advertisements featuring the actor while his participation in a variety show filming was minimized, according to reports.

Gold Medalist, which previously managed Sae-ron, also rejected claims that Soo-hyun pressured Sae-ron into repaying the debt she incurred from her drunk driving incident in 2022.

The company said it worked to reduce the actress’ debt from 1.014 billion won to 700 million won, and helped shoulder the remaining amount.

“The issue of Kim Sae-ron’s debt was entirely a matter between Gold Medalist and Kim Sae-ron. The claims that Kim Soo-hyun personally lent money to Kim Sae-ron or suddenly sought to get it back are unfounded,” it said.

Gold Medalist also slammed HoverLab for allegedly distorting facts and altering context.

“We want to ask whether it is acceptable for the private matters of two adults to be disclosed without consent and whether he should have to endure all of this due to the non-consensual disclosure of private lives,” it said.

Sae-ron, once a promising child actor best known for the 2010 film “The Man from Nowhere,” was found dead in her home in February. She was 24.
