K-pop girl group NewJeans is back in the spotlight with their new name, NJZ.

In an Instagram post by American company Complex, which tagged NJZ’s official page, the much-awaited announcement was made.

“Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein’s new group name: NJZ. Get ready for an exciting journey with NJZ in 2025! Stay tuned!” it wrote.

The new name comes following the group’s month-long legal dispute with their label ADOR, a subsidiary of the South Korean entertainment company HYBE.

The new NJZ page also recently shared updated photos of the well-loved quintet, known for popularizing hit K-pop songs including "Super Shy," "ASAP," and "Hybe Boy."

In an exclusive interview with CNN, NJZ member Hanni shared that this new identity is a way of turning this rough period into something more exciting.

NJZ is set to be one of the headliners at the ComplexCon Hong Kong event from March 21 to 23, where they are reportedly going to perform new music.

The event signals the five-member group’s first major appearance since announcing their split from ADOR. The members revealed that they terminated their contracts with the company on November 28.

In September 2024, the girls alleged that the record label was involved in bullying and harassment. However, ADOR denied the allegations and stated that the group’s contract could not be “unilaterally terminated.”

According to reports, it filed two injunctions in South Korean courts: one in December to confirm the validity of the group’s contracts, and another in January to prevent the group from independently signing advertisement contracts.

In a separate report by koreaherald.com, it was stated that the girl group had fulfilled all "major commitments," except for some advertisement-related obligations, under its contract with ADOR as of January 5.

South Korean media also reported that a hearing for the contract dispute will take place in 2025, as ADOR asserts that the girl group’s contract is valid until 2029, while the girls maintain they will not go back.

The "OMG" hitmakers debuted in July 2022 and has since become one of media giant HYBE's most successful K-pop groups.

They also graced the 2023 Asia Artist Awards, held at the Philippine Arena in December 2023, where they won major awards, including the Asia Celebrity Award, Best Choice Award, and Hot Trend Award.
