Hollywood star Drew Barrymore raved about the Philippines' arroz caldo after trying it for the first time in her television show.

The savory porridge was prepared for the actress by Filipina chef Pilar Valdes, her senior culinary contributor on the show.

Valdes revealed that arroz caldo is a dish that is "near and dear" to her heart, saying it is her go-to dish on days when she feels under the weather.

"My mom makes this for me when I'm sick. I don't live at home anymore, I've been gone for 24 years, so now my husband makes this for me when I'm sick. She taught him how to make it," the chef said.

After getting her first spoonful, Barrymore said: "It has so much flavor. You have to make this so you can taste it because you have to taste it to believe it."

"It looks so beautiful, but wait until it's in your mouth -- you're going to freak out."

Valdes shared a clip from this moment on the show on her Instagram page, saying: "Always so thrilled to be sharing recipes from the Philippines."

She also provided more details about her arroz caldo recipe at the end of the video.
