THROWBACK: Barbie Hsu shares glimpse of tattoos

The late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu once shared details about her tattoos in a 2003 interview with Kris Aquino, as seen in a throwback clip uploaded on Jeepney TV.

During the interview, Barbie revealed that she had five tattoos at that time. These included a flower tattoo on her hand, a sun tattoo on her ankle, the Korean word for "love" on her other ankle, a star tattoo behind her neck, and another tattoo on her back.

While she did not delve into the personal meaning of each design, the revelation gave fans a rare glimpse into her tattoos and personal style.

Barbie visited the Philippines with her sister Dee Hsu in 2003 to perform for her Filipino fans at the height of the popularity of the hit TV series Meteor Garden.

Barbie starred as Shan Cai in the series, which premiered in 2001. The show became a hit across Asia, and Barbie, along with her co-stars Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Van Ness Wu, and Ken Chu, rose to international prominence.

The series is a Taiwanese adaptation of the Japanese comic series Hana Yori Dango. It follows the story of a working class girl, Shan Cai, and her entanglement with a group of rich and influential students known as the "F4" (Flower Four).

Barbie tragically passed away at the age of 48 from pneumonia. Her sister Dee shared the news of February 3 via her manager to the Taiwanese media.

"Thanks for all the concern. Over the Chinese New Year period, our entire family travelled to Japan for a holiday, and my most beloved, kindest elder sister Barbie came down with influenza-related pneumonia and has unfortunately left us," the statement read as per Star ETToday according to a report by The Straits Times.

She went on: "I am thankful to be her sister in this life, and grateful that we have taken care of each other and kept each other company all these years. I will always be thankful to her and remember her. Shan (Barbie Hsu’s nickname), rest in peace. We love you always. Together remember forever."
