Former actress Sam Pinto took to social media to share an update on her husband, basketball player Anthony Semerad, who fell ill during their family trip to Japan.

In a series of Instagram stories, Sam revealed that Anthony was diagnosed with dengue while on vacation.

“l appreciate everyone's concern. Anthony has been unwell since our second day here (February 5). He had a very high fever ranging from 39 to 40 degrees, along with chills, headaches, joint pain, a loss of appetite, and nausea,” Sam wrote, posting a photo of themselves in a Tokyo emergency room.

 Sam shared that they initially called a doctor on February 7 when Anthony's condition did not improve. He tested negative for both COVID-19 and influenza and was prescribed medication. However, his health continued to deteriorate.

She then shared a photo of Anthony on a stretcher as they found a facility that could admit her husband.

“However, the following day, his condition worsened, so we contacted the doctor again, who prescribed antibiotics. Sadly, his situation continued to decline, leading us to call an ambulance for transport to the hospital. Since it was a Sunday, most hospitals were closed, and only a few were accepting patients. Eventually, the ambulance took him to a facility that could admit him,” she said.

The NLEX team basketball player then underwent blood tests where they needed to coordinate with his team doctor as the diagnosis was initially unsure.

“They performed a blood test and started IV treatment, revealing that his white blood cells and platelets were extremely low. The doctors here were unsure of the diagnosis, so they sent his results to his team doctor, who confirmed it was Dengue Fever,” Sam revealed.

“They provided medication for his headache and nausea but instructed us to return to the hotel and allow him to rest. We focused on keeping him hydrated, encouraged him to eat, and ensured he got plenty of rest,” she said. 

Anthony continued to have follow-up checkups and blood tests. His twin brother, basketball player DJ Semerad, flew to Japan to assist the family.

“He got Dengue from Manila. 4-7 incubation days. and his immune system is so low from the games, flying, traveling, hot to cold weather. Just got him,” she explained. “Had to do everything alone with a toddler and no yaya. In this weather pa.”

“Went to the hospital again today to get his blood tests. Still very low platelets. Thank you for accompanying us Lorenzo!” Sam posted.

Before Anthony fell ill, Sam had been sharing updates from their Japan trip, showcasing their experiences with food and shopping. However, their plans were disrupted when Anthony got sick on their second day.

“ Day 2 - Japan 🇯🇵 Mostly eating and shopping day 🛒🍣 P. S. Don’t think there will be a day 3 post. Anthony got sick last night, high fever, chills and headache. So. Hotel lang and rest today. 🤒,” she shared.

Sam and their daughter made the most of their time while also looking after Anthony.

“Day 3 in Japan 🇯🇵 Chill and rest day at the hotel! For dinner, we had some tasty Family Mart ramen, took care of Anthony with his meds, highly recommend this hydration drink, made a quick stop at Donki to hunt for some makeup, and then treated ourselves to a lovely bubbly bath 🛀,” she wrote.

Sam and Anthony tied the knot in a civil wedding in Pasay in March 2021 after more than a year of being engaged. They welcomed their daughter, Mia Aya, in September 2021.

Last January, the couple celebrated a new milestone as they held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new property in Calaca, Batangas.

“Building something magical ✨🙏@anthonysemerad,” Sam penned in a post.
