EXCLUSIVE: Polo Laurel talks about life after BidaMan: ‘I really treasured those moments’

It’s been six years since he became known as one of the members of the<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/itsshowtime"> It’s Showtime</a>-based all-male group BidaMan, but Polo Laurel’s career in the limelight actually officially started the year before he joined the show. After the group parted ways, Polo signed as an artist under CreaZion Studios in 2022. “I’ve been with BidaMan since 2019, six years ago na po yun. Before that, actually, I was discovered by Viva sa isang pageant, sa Face of the Year 2018, and thankfully nanalo tayo dun and na-discover tayo ng Viva where they gave me an exclusive contract for five years, and now I’m with CreaZion (Studios),” he told PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview. When asked what he enjoyed most about his experience as part of BidaMan, Polo said that getting the chance to work alongside most of the country’s biggest talents was a memorable experience. “Lahat ng moments ko dun stood out kasi we were really gifted na everyday meron kaming chance na sumayaw sa <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/itsshowtime">Showtime</a> and na-expose kami sa iba’t ibang big artists. We got to do some production numbers with Nadine Lustre, Denise Laurel, at marami pang iba. So for me, I really treasured those moments and actually up to this day, I still look back and reminisce sa mga BidaMan days namin,” he admitted. Even though they don’t see each other, Polo shared that he is still in touch with some of his fellow group members. “I’m really close with my BidaMan brothers. Specifically, sila Nathan, sila Yuki, si Johannes. I would see them every now and then, and the other week magkasama kami nila Jin. Nagkaroon kami ng mini-reunion ng BidaMan. Wala pa kaming projects together pero mostly before [nagkakasama kami] sa mga out-of-town shows like provincial shows. Pero sa mga movies or series, wala pa naman. Pero hopefully somewhere down the road magkita kita po ulit kami,” he said. Now that he is part of the CreaZion Studios’ roster of artists, Polo hopes to get into doing more action projects onscreen. “Well, medyo iba na yung branding natin ngayon kasi nung una, I was branded to be part of a group. Yung grooming and branding sa amin sa BidaMan is as a boyband kind of way. Pero ngayon, as an individual na tayo. And I think I want to get more into action films. Kasi last year, nag-shoot kami ng In Thy Name for Viva and for me, that was really fun. Tinuruan kami kung papano humawak ng baril and the exercises as well. Na-enjoy ko yung mga ganung mga movie genre. I’m looking into doing more of action naman,” he explained. Out of all the actors in the country, Polo shared that getting to work with<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/itsshowtime"> Showtime</a> host Anne Curtis would be a dream come true. “I think everyone already knows, but it’s Anne Curtis. I would like to work with Anne Curtis. Siyempre, aside from her being one of the most humble, she’s a very good actress as well, and I think I could learn a lot from her. I think may natural chemistry kami. Kasi sa <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/itsshowtime">Showtime</a> and then sa BidaMan, I was known as, yung headline sa akin noon was about me being nervous in front of Anne Curtis. So I think there’s something there that we could actually work on. Yung movie niya na Buy Bust, oh my God, ang ganda nun. I really enjoyed that film. How it was filmed, the cinematography, the acting, everything was on point, the fight scenes were even better, yung barilan, the story. I loved everything about that film,” he shared. Although he looks outgoing on camera, Polo admitted that he can get introspective in real life. “In person kasi, I’m a little bit of a chill person. And if you really get to know me, you’ll discover na medyo emotional ako na tao and I think yun din yung makikita ng tao sa akin sa bagong reality show na sinalihan ko. I think they’re going to see my emotional side,” he added.
