Sassa Gurl on why she’s not afraid to speak her mind: ‘Mahalaga sa akin ang pagiging politikal’

Content creator Sassa Gurl shared why she is not afraid to be outspoken especially when it comes to championing the rights of the LGBTQ community. Her management Viva Entertainment was recently summoned by the MTRCB after their initial “X” rating of the film Dreamboi caused her to call them out using offensive language. Still, Sassa Gurl remains unafraid and outspoken when it comes to the causes she believes in. The popular content creator was also lauded for attending the rally last October 21 where celebrities were seen speaking out about the recent political issues and anomalous flood control projects all over the country. In an interview with Sassa during the Colourette Cosmetics anniversary event, she shared what experiences growing up helped shaped her to become the person she is now. “Ako kasi galing akong kahirapan talaga. Bata pa lang ako, naranasan ko na yung hindi mabigyan ng opportunity, mapagdamutan ng opportunity. Hindi ko matodo yung potential ko just because mahirap kami. Pero, kaya talagang rooted talaga sa sarili ko na kailangan yung mga hugot ko at mga ipinaglalaban ko ay hindi ko nakakalimutan ever since bata pa lang ako, kasi nanggaling ako sa laylayan. So kailangan china-champion ko sa sarili ko at saka sa mga susunod kong ginagawa, yung kung saan ako nanggaling. At saka, talagang mahalaga sa akin ang pagiging politikal. Kasi nga, yun talaga ang isa sa mga ipinaglalaban ko nung walang wala ako. Kumbaga, sabi ko nga sa mga nakshie ko, hindi ko kayo iiwan sa kanal, kumbaga,” she stated. Now that the spotlight has been put on her as she speaks up about her beliefs, Sassa revealed how she handles all the pressure of balancing her rising career and the rest of her life.“Ang ginagawa ko lang, ini-enjoy ko siya all the time, as much as possible. Siyempre hindi ko ikakaila na may pressure talaga kasi nga andiyan yung mga comparison ng mga audience, andiyan yung mga mas gusto nila yung ganitong bagay, nakukulangan sila. Pero kung yung identity ng content mo is true and authentic sa ‘yo, you will never go wrong. Kaya ako, I will make sure na authentic talaga sa sarili ko yung mga content na ginagawa ko. Kasi I think yun yung pinaka-sikreto eh. Kailangan hindi mo makakalimutan yung core mo talaga kasi yun yung importante at yun yung nagiging signature para sa akin. Dun naka-relate sa akin yung mga nakshie ko ever since. Kaya hanggang ngayon hindi ko siya kinakalimutan,” she said. Sassa Gurl also explained how her fan base helps keep her humble. “Lagi kong iniisip na kung wala yung mga nakshie ko, wala rin talaga ako. Talagang inaalay ko sa kanila everything, yung platform ko, yung projects na ginagawa ko, lahat ng mga ni-ri-release ko ay talagang para sa mga nakshie ko. So hindi ako kumukuha ng mga project na labag sa identity ko, na labag sa principles ko. And talagang never kong kakalimutan talaga yung lagay ko nung nagsisimula pa lamang ako kasi yun talaga eh. Alam ko kasi yung feeling na mapagdamutan. Kaya talagang ngayon pa lang, hanggang ngayon, i-cha-champion ko siya,” she added.
