Daiana Menezes opens up about surviving breast cancer: ‘I was told I probably had two years to live’

Daiana Menezes opened up about her battle with breast cancer and how she rebuilt her life after the diagnosis.In a YouTube interview with Karen Davila, the actress-model revealed she was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast cancer in 2018.&quot;That was exactly on a Valentine&#x27;s Day, I would never forget. My mom was with me. She was living in the Philippines for a while. She came over to the Philippines to take good care of me because I had some issues with my own personal life. If she wasn&#x27;t here, I am not sure if I would be able to recover the way I did,&quot; she said.Daiana revealed that she was told by one of her doctors that she &quot;probably had two years to live.&quot;&quot;Ang una kong ginawa was I doubted my doctor, to be honest. I didn&#x27;t think na mali siya but I was like, it can&#x27;t be just that. You can&#x27;t just tell a person that they only have two years and they only have these options. We have to study. Whenever we learn that we are sick, kailangan nating pag-aralan &#x27;yung  katawan natin. Why did we get sick this way? Because we cause it somehow,&quot; she stated. Daiana began studying neuroscience to better understand her health and made major lifestyle changes while fighting the disease.She relayed she stopped drinking alcohol. &quot;I traced it back. I used to drink alcohol now maybe 10 percent of it, only if I am in social places and in activities that i really have to. Of course I miss getting tipsy and fun but it is not worth it so tanggal. And I really prayed for it talaga para matanggal.&quot;The actress also started getting enough sleep. &quot;Puyat. I know in our work we don&#x27;t care di ba? Basta on the go tayo. The show must go on. Hindi. Kailangan po tayong magpahinga,&quot; she pointed out. She also removed sugar in her diet. &quot;Another one pagkain... There are fuels in our body that if they&#x27;re together, the cancer cells that you could have will be so happy if you fuel them so don&#x27;t do that. For example, para sa kaalaman ng lahat, sugar number one culprit. If cancer has glutamine and glucose they will ferment inside our bodies and that will be the fuel and the energy that the cancer will use to proliferate.&quot; Daiana relayed that it&#x27;s been seven years since she stopped taking sugar.The model also shared that she had to learn how to deal with emotional stresses. &quot;I used to be so stressed. Instead of double mastectomy, I just removed -lumpectomy - small part of this right breast which is where [the cancer] happened,&quot; she shared.She also took different supplements and underwent some alternative body therapies.Today, Daiana is cancer-free. &quot;Today I am cancer-free as they like to say. I&#x27;d like to say, I&#x27;m peacefully co-existing with cancer, that&#x27;s how I like to treat it,&quot; she remarked. &quot;For me... I think it is more like what is the maintenance I can do to keep this situation stagnant because all of us can have cancer.&quot;
