South Korean talent management YG Entertainment revealed earlier this week that they will be ending the actor management section of the company after 16 years. In a statement released by the company, the operations for the actor management will cease, and their focus will instead shift to their music business.

Some of the actors under YG Entertainment are Lee Sung-kyung, Cha Seung-won, Yoo In-na, Kim Hee-ae, Jang Ki-yong, Lee Soo-hyuk, Son Na-eun, and Joo Woo-jae, among others.

“We sincerely thank all the actors who have been with us and fans who have shown them so much love. We will spare no effort in providing the necessary support until the very end.” YG Entertainment said in their statement.

They added that they already had a discussion with each of their actors regarding their contracts as not all of them have the same end dates. These actors will leave YG Entertainment once their contracts have expired.

“In order to focus on its main business category, music, YG has decided to restructure its business structure and as a result will be ending its actor management business," the agency stated in their press release.

The South Korean talent management reported an operating loss of $247,000 during the third quarter of 2024 as compared to their operating profit of 21 billion won in the same quarter of 2023.

Due to this, YG Entertainment will shift its focus to music management and have already begun restructuring their business to do so.

“We have consistently worked on restructuring our business to focus on our core operations. We are positioning 2025 as the inaugural year where these efforts will bear fruit. While enhancing the sustainability of our existing IP (intellectual property), we will also accelerate the discovery and development of new IP. By continuously strengthening our core competencies and solidifying our leadership in the music industry, we aim to write a new chapter in YG’s growth story,” they wrote.

YG Entertainment has produced several successful music groups such as BIGBANG, 2NE1, BLACKPINK, AKMU, WINNER, TREASURE, and BABYMONTSER, among others.
