Jodi Sta. Maria reflects on early showbiz struggles and waiting for her big break

<p>Jodi Sta. Maria took a trip down memory lane and opened up about her struggles when she was first starting out in show business.</p><p>In an interview with Maricel Soriano in her latest YouTube vlog, Jodi recalled her journey early on when she ventured into the entertainment industry.</p><p>&quot;Siguro when I was starting, ang gusto ko lang naman is parang kahit papaano makilala ka,&quot; she recounted. &quot;Kasi nung nag-start naman ako hindi ko naman talagang naging pangarap maging artista. Pero ang passion ko po is mag-perform. Mahilig ako sumali sa mga contest sa school kasi feeling ko mayroon akong sarili kong world and feeling ko lahat posible doon sa world na meron ako kapag nagpe-perform ako.&quot;</p><p>When she got the opportunity to enter show business, Jodi recalled that she had to work twice as hard to gain exposure and introduce herself to the mass audience at the start of her career.</p><div><iframe width="928" height="522" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lFnzR0-PXxo" title="ANONG HUGOT NI JODI SA MGA ICONIC ROLES NIYA? And then ang goal ko lang at first is parang paano ba ba ako makilala so kailangan ko ng exposure,&quot; she recalled.</p><p>&quot;Ang nangyari po nun kaliwa&#x27;t kanan, tanggap ka lang nang tanggap ng trabaho. &#x27;Yung hindi ka na nga nila tatanungin eh kung gusto mo ba tanggapin, o bukas may taping ka. Papadala na lang diyan &#x27;yung call sheet so kahit wala pong tulog okay lang kasi kailangan kahit papaano makilala ako ng mga tao.&quot;</p><p>Amid her growing showbiz career that time doing acting and hosting projects, Jodi left showbiz to get married. &quot;Ito &#x27;yung time naman na chinose ko naman &#x27;yung love over career. So iniwan ko po &#x27;yung showbiz, nagpakasal ako, nagkaroon ako ng Thirdy (her son), after nun bumalik ako ulit ng Philippines so nag-work po ako,&quot; she said.  </p><p>When she returned to showbiz, Jodi realized she needed to re-establish her career, presenting yet another mountain she had to conquer.</p><p>&quot;Nung time na &#x27;yun kasi may naiwan ako na show. Nung pagbalik ko from the States ang sabi ko pwede ko po bang balikan &#x27;yung naiwan kong hosting job. Ang sabi sa akin nun I remember na, &#x27;It does not work that way.&#x27; Hindi pwedeng aalis ka, iiwanan mo isang bagay, eh pagbalik mo, i-expect mo na nandun pa rin. So ilang taon po &#x27;yun from 2006 until first quarter ng 2012 so six years po &#x27;yun na parang na sige balik support po ulit,&quot; she stated.</p><p>Jodi pointed out that she did not have an issue playing supporting roles as acting is her passion.</p><p>&quot;Ang sabi ko na lang nag-ienoy naman po ako, and wala naman akong problema na gumawa ng character roles or support roles, kasi mahal ko naman po &#x27;yung ginagawa ko, passion ko &#x27;yung pag-arte,&quot; she remarked.  </p><p>Come 2012, Jodi headlined <em>Be Careful With My Heart</em>. &quot;Pagkatapos nun nagbago naman &#x27;yung trajectory ng career from 2012 hanggang sa nagdere-derecho na po &#x27;yun.&quot;</p><p>Jodi remarked that during the waiting season of her life, she always believed that her time in showbiz will come.</p><p>&quot;Naniwala ako eh na darating din &#x27;yung time ko. It was just a matter of when pero hindi po ako parang pinanghinaan ng loob. Nag-intay lang po ako nang nag-intay. One day mano-notice niyo rin ako. One day mabibigyan din ako ng leading role. &#x27;Yun po nag-intay lang. So nag-pay off naman &#x27;yung waiting,&quot; she said.</p><p>The actress also highlighted that the waiting season molded her into the person that she is today.  </p><p>&quot;Naniwala po ako na lahat ng nangyari sa akin, lahat ng experiences ko, tumulong po &#x27;yun para humubog dun sa pagkatao ko na kakailanganin ko para dun sa bagong yugto ng life ko kasi kung hindi ko na-experience &#x27;yung lahat ng nangyari sa akin, siguro iba &#x27;yung perspective ko,&quot; she said.</p><p>The actress went on: &quot;Dun sa waiting period na &#x27;yun si God talaga really helped develop &#x27;yung character na kinakailangan. &#x27;Yung waiting period was necessary na pagdumating &#x27;yung blessing na iha-hand sa&#x27;yo ni Lord, hindi mo siya sasayangin, kunbaga magiging thankful ka, iingatan ko &#x27;to, ike-keep ko &#x27;to.&quot;</p>
