BTS member Suga. Photo from Suga's Instagram accountSuga of K-pop supergroup BTS has been fined 15 million won (or more than P642,000) for driving an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol, Korean media reported on Monday.

The 31-year-old rapper and producer, whose real name is Min Yoo-gi, was charged after officers found him attempting to get up following a fall from his scooter while parking near his home in Seoul last August.

Police have said Suga's blood alcohol level was at 0.227 percent, exceeding the 0.08 percent threshold.

A district court in Seoul imposed the fine on Suga through a summary order, which imposes penalties without holding a trial, according to reports from local media and news agencies such as Yonhap, the Korea Herald and the Korea JoongAng Daily's Celeb Confirmed.

Suga has the option to challenge the sentence by requesting a formal trial within seven days of the court's decision, according to the reports.

The artist, who also had his license revoked, has repeatedly apologized over the incident.

"Although no one was harmed and no property was damaged, this is entirely my responsibility with no excuses," he said in a Weverse post.

"I apologize to those who have been hurt by my carelessness and wrongful behavior, and I will ensure that this does not happen again in the future," he added.

Suga is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, a requirement for most able-bodied South Korean men as the country remains technically at war with its neighboring North.
