MANILA (UPDATED) -- Kapamilya love team Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano are the lead stars of "How To Spot A Red Flag," an upcoming series produced by ABS-CBN Studios, Viu, and Dreamscape Entertainment.

This original series, a collaboration between streaming platform Viu and ABS-CBN, in partnership with Dreamscape, promises to deliver a fresh narrative that resonates with both local and international viewers.

Following the success of "Can't Buy Me Love," which wrapped up in May, Donny and Belle are eager to explore new characters and storylines.

"We are very excited because I think all of us have the same goal of bringing something different to the table. It's very inspiring because we really all will bring 100%, 110% here," said Pangilinan.

He highlighted the project's light and feel-good nature, a contrast to their more intense previous work.

Mariano also shared her excitement about the series' relevance, particularly for Gen Z audiences.

"I realized ang daming matututunan sa story na to. Kasi it's very relevant. Most especially for Gen Zs," Mariano said.

The promise of beach scenes adds an intriguing visual element to the series, enhancing its appeal.

The series delves into the concept of "red flags" in relationships and life, a theme that both Donny and Belle find compelling. Donny described a red flag as "something off about a person," while Belle defined it as "something a person does that goes against your values."

They also reflected on their personal red flags, with Donny admitting to procrastination and Belle acknowledging her indecisiveness.

In "How to Spot a Red Flag," both actors embrace roles that challenge their previous portrayals. Belle's character represents a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, differing from her tougher past roles.

"She has a loving family... and she wants to prove something to herself as well," Belle explained, emphasizing the character's depth and evolution.

Donny’s character in the show, is an introvert, offering a stark contrast to his extroverted roles like Bingo in Can’t Buy Me Love.

"He's super outgoing... but this character is very introverted," Donny shared, hinting at the complexities and twists his character will navigate.

The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Angel Aquino, Christian Vasquez, Jameson Blake, Mylene Dizon, and Benjie Paras, under the direction of Dwein Baltazar.

Pangilinan emphasized the importance of the project as an original Filipino series: "This is not an adaptation. This is an original show... We really feel strongly about that because we have so much to offer," he said.

Since their last show, Donny and Belle have embraced a period of rest and exploration. Donny described their time in Los Angeles for ASAP as a "big breather," allowing them to reconnect with family and pursue personal interests.

Belle traveled to Singapore for the F1 race and visited London for "Barrio Fiesta," while also achieving a personal milestone by graduating. Balancing her studies with her career commitments was challenging, but she managed to fulfill her promise to her family.

As they prepare to begin filming, both stars are eager to bring this new story to life. "I miss performing in front and acting in front of the cameras," Belle confessed.

"How to Spot a Red Flag" will exclusively be streamed on Viu.  -- with a report Gretchen Fullido, ABS-CBN News
