MANILA -- Actor Carlo Aquino on Wednesday reflected on his marriage to actress Charlie Dizon, sharing insights into their love story as well as details into their private wedding ceremony last June in Cavite.

The intimate wedding in Silang was attended only by close family and friends, with the couple opting to keep details under wraps.

Aquino recalled that his relationship with Dizon blossomed after they worked together on "A Soldier's Heart."

"Colleague kami, tumatambay nung nagkaroon ng lock-in pero walang romance," he said.

It wasn't until a Star Magic tour in the United States that something sparked between them. "Doon nabuo kami," said Aquino. "Lagi kami magkasama. Kapag may kailangang gawing vlog for Star Magic, kami magkasama, so nadevelop."

He went on to formally court Dizon, even going to Sacramento to meet her parents while he was on tour with singer Gigi De Lana. "Pinuntahan ko yung parents niya sa Sacramento... nililigawan ko na," he said.

"Nag-drive ako from San Francisco to Sacramento," he added. "Nagtataka siya, nagulat, pero somehow, na-appreciate niya din 'yun kasi nag-drive ako [ng] malayo, nagdala ako mga pasalubong for them."

Aquino admitted that he was "interviewed" about his past by Dizon's mother, but accepted their questions. "Pinakita ko naman na maayos ang intentions ko," he said.

The actor proposed to Dizon on her birthday. "Nag-propose na ako sa kaniya, sabi ko, 'Ano na gusto mong journey after your 30th?' Ang sagot niya, gusto niya mag-Christmas village sa Switzerland. Sabi ko, sa buhay, hindi destination," said Aquino, before getting down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage.

Aquino also clarified that their decision to keep their wedding lowkey is not because of his past relationship. The actor had a public breakup with his ex-girlfriend Trina Candaza, the mother of his daughter Mithi.

"Mas gusto ko lang mas intimate... usually yung mga magagandang bagay sinisira ng mga taong hindi ka naman kilala," Aquino explained. 

As for online comments, Aquino remains unfazed, saying: "Ako wala akong pakialam... Lumagpas na ako sa phase ko na pini-please ko mga tao."

Aquino shared that he maintains visitation rights with Mithi and that she and Dizon have a close bond. "Mithi and Charlie, sobrang okay," he said. "Mahal na mahal siya ni Mithi and mahal na mahal siya ni April. Minsan hinahanap ni Mithi kapag wala si April."

As for expanding their family, Aquino and Dizon are not in a rush. "Kung ma-bless kami ng offspring, sobrang tatanggapin namin 'yun," he says. "Pero ngayon, nagsasabay kami ng trabaho."

Dizon is set to star in a new series, while Aquino is taping for the Philippine adaptation of "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" and promoting his upcoming film, "Crosspoint," which hits theaters on October 16.
