The reunion comes three years after the hitmaking act's six members parted ways with their original label Source Music.

"In January of next year, GFriend plans to greet fans with a project to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary," Source Music said in a statement, as reported by K-pop news website Soompi.

"The members’ wishes to gift a precious memory to Buddy (GFriend's official fan club) came together to successfully realize this project," it added.

News of the reunion quickly spread across social media, sparking excitement among fans. On X, the platform formerly called Twitter, "GFRIEND" was among the trending topics in the Philippines as of writing.

Composed of Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji, GFriend debuted in 2015 under Source Music with the extended play "Season of Glass," fronted by the single "Glass Bead."

The sextet initially gained popularity with their "innocent" image, complemented by emotive singing, catchy pop hooks, and orchestral arrangements, accompanied by sharp choreography. Their hits include "Me Gustas Tu," "Rough," and "Navillera."

Over the years, the group adopted a more mature and sophisticated image while exploring new musical styles, as evident in singles such as "Fever," "Apple," and "Mago."

In May 2021, all six members departed Source Music. Eunha, SinB, and Umji signed with BPM Entertainment and formed the trio VIVIZ in 2022, while the remaining members pursued solo careers.

GFriend previously went to the Philippines in 2019, staging the Manila leg of their "Go Go GFriend!" tour at the New Frontier Theater.
