MANILA — One of the first people whom Ricardo Cepeda immediately messaged upon his temporary release from prison was his friend, Kapamilya star Coco Martin.

Prior to his arrest in October last year for syndicated estafa, Cepeda was part of the top-rating primetime series "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" as Richardson Wu.

"Bago ako mawala, nagkatutukan kami ni Ramon (Christopher de Leon), tapos yung next scene, dapat may mission kami ni Roy, eh wala na arrested na ako. So mag-isa na lang si Roy," said Cepeda on Monday, a few days after his release from prison in Tuguegarao.

According to Cepeda, he immediately messaged Martin once he received confirmation that he is set for release.

"When I got the release, lahat ng kaibigan ko… Minessage ko, sabi ko 'confirmed na. I'm released'. Right away nag-respond siya, sabi niya, 'they wanted to help me more than they could. Ibabalik namin yung character mo," said Cepeda.

He is now looking forward to returning to the top-rated action series.

"That was what I was promised. I was promised. Kampante ako na may waiting work. And yan yung worry ko, yung eleven months na wala akong income, puro labas ako ng labas ng pera for the legal expenses," said Cepeda.

Cepeda also shared that his prison mates, even the jail guards and officers, were regular viewers of "Batang Quiapo."

"Yung centers may mga TV na malaki. Lahat nakakasilip, tapos consensus magvo-vote kung ano panonoorin na channel, lahat 'Batang Quiapo'. So in fact, may regular headcount kung walang nawala. Kailangan matapos yung headcount bago mag 'Batang Quiapo'. Pati yung bantay, even yung pulis nanonood ng 'Batang Quiapo'," the actor said.

Cepeda could not give a specific date on when he will return to the show, but what's certain is that he is excited and energized to return to work.

"I'm excited. I've been thinking about it for months. Ang worry ko before was, 'makakabalik ba?' Would it fit the story? Kaya malaking bagay na kinonfirm ni Coco na meron. So at least I know, I have work," he said.
